The half point Hovland got for withdrawing is gonna be talked about. Didn't seem like it was going to matter but if it finishes like it stands now, that's the winning 1/2

Yeah, that doesn't seem right. He should get no points and us should get a 1/2 or full point.

If you use eclairs in your example, he will get it right away. MikeMc

kinda of dumb rule.  Should either get no points or points for the opposing team

RIP Innis - April 9th 2012 - you always be in my heart. :)

Its been a long standing rule, had it occured on friday or saturday, no problem getting a fill in. But since it was singles matches both captains agreed the envelope rule would be played and both teams would recieve one 1/2 point. Should a player have to  dropped out due to injury or the like.

Why the Rule Was Invoked
Hovland's Injury: Hovland suffered a flare-up of a previous neck injury, a disc bulge in his neck, which made it impossible for him to rotate his neck and play.
The Envelope Rule: The rule was agreed upon by captains prior to the event to ensure teams remained evenly matched if an injury occurred on the opposing side.
The Outcome: Because Hovland couldn't play, the U.S. captain, Keegan Bradley, had previously put Harris English's name in a sealed envelope. As per the rule, English then sat out, and the Hovland vs. English match was awarded a half-point to each team.

and now you know the rest of the story, good day

well they certainly made it an interesting finish. Guys like schefler are wired differently when it come to team ( partner) play. Very poor showing and a gee whiz excitement when he did play. Tiger also went stretches of poor play in team play. Both Tiger and Scottie woant an opponants, not a teamate playing with them. Its a weird dynamic

Look at scotties reaction when he beat Rory on 18, then watch DeChambeaus to halve fitzpatrick reaction

It's a dumb rule. No matter how long it's been around.

If you can't field an opponent the other team's player should win by forfeit. If you need to start having an alternate there just in case so be it. Hell, Donald could've played.

I'll have mine on the rocks.

The New York crows is embarrassing.

I agree...it's embarrassing how those douches treated our guests...what a bunch of dirt bags. They should have thrown every one of them out and black listed them from every golf event. It's golf, it's not an Eagles game :dismay:

Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere.
Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

At least the US made it interesting...it looked like it was gonna be over after the first couple matches...but it actually, against all odds, turned into an interesting event :th: I know it's a long standing rule, but I agree that if you can't field a player, that's your problem, not your opponents. Should be either 1/2 point for your opponent or even a full point. That's kind of how forfeits are supposed to work :)

Weird just heard Hovaland is out with neck injury. So no match between Harris English and him. Both sides get a half point.the erou  team could feasibly be injured and win without playing a hole.

Should be a forfeit. Thats a ridiculous rule.

Just goes to show that Philly gets a bad rap and the NY fans of all stripes are the worst of the bunch. :dismay:

You know it must be a penguin bound down if you hear that terrible screaming and there ain't no other birds around.

I agree we did not shine as hosts.
Honestly though, those accents sounded more like Jersey to me.
