saxon59
Fore grips on these are tennis racket tape. Rear grips are nylon cord with clear auto spray. Tape feels tacky but isn't,I prefer it to the cord for better grip, but the cord holds up better against scuffs etc . Cascade
When taping on reel use short pieces of 1" Gorilla duct tape, just long enough to overlap about an inch. 3 or 4 wraps on both feet is plenty, pull them tight. Over this I wrap baseball bat tape or tennis tape, some are made for wet conditions making it even better. Fold tape in half and wrap both up and down from stem. this will solve the problem of getting a lump or void at stem. Louisville Slugger makes the best one to suit my needs. My bait reels are 704z and 704 Greenie, 17# and 20# mono with 30# and 40# leader. 100% agree on circle hooks they should require them everywhere. But that’s a whole topic of discussion in itself. R.R. Bridge Fisher
The cheap black electric tape will fail and leave a mess on your hands after some time. The end will come apart. We end up not using it on cables especially if we need to unrap it. The die\glue they use in the cheap stuff is tough to get off. I like a cord wrapped around the handle then shrink wrapped on top. The rope was sticky but the blank itself was clean beside the left over glue/epoxy from reel seat or corktape. Should've had a v8.

I am not sure of the size, it does shrink down a good amount with the heat gun you just have to watch that you’re not burning it And because I was not sliding it over a reel seat I didn’t have to get the large diameter
bugsbenny
golf club grips, very comfortable, easy to install, many styles to choose from and cheap ,no slip for sure unless your watching caddy shack Gooch88
tristate
Wrap blank with cotton three ply cord. Coat it liberally with pliobond rubber cement. Several coats until well coated and saturated. This grip wears like iron and is not slippery. It is also not sticky when it dries. Gooch88

First layer of lacquer on the rod, than cord, two side by side tight passes, and lacquer again. Bulletproof and slip proof.
Nick T
I’ve used Lizard Skins grip tape on my baseball bats. I’d imagine they’d work well on a fishing rod too. Has anyone used those? Edited July 3, 2019 by Nick T Gooch88
Local66
I've been using tarred seiners cord for about 15 years now, and I've never had to replace a grip. It doesn't melt, dry rot, or mildew like other materials. Stays nice & grippy even when covered in blood and fish snot. Here are 2 rods, one is a few years old and the other was built in February. glos and Gooch88 2 "Talent does what it can, genius does what it has to"

Been on my Century rod for a couple of years now surf fishing from the UK. I like to change handle grips seasonally but kept the lizard skins on for another to make use of its cost. Could get two or three handle grips out of one roll. Don't know if I would go back to L/Skins or return to what I took off last time at less cost, lighter and better grip when wet... Its handle bar tape from bicycles with drop down handle bars. HTH, Fish
