The second ones down look like they would kill for fluke here on the east coast.  How do you or what do you use to tied the head and have the hook extend to the tail like that?

I have hundred pack boxes of Mustad 3407 DT’s in sizes 4,6 and 8 that I use for the front hook that I cut off on my articulated flies.

They are cheap so I don’t mind sacrificing them.

I use a loop of braid, in this case 50 lb Fireline to attach the stinger hook.

I really like the Owner No Escape hooks for the stinger hooks since we are required to fish barbless in the salt out here.

One of the things you have to deal with when fishing amongst ESA listed salmon stocks.

It's nice to support a picture with your explanation. Even I could grasp the concept than.

Nothing flies by me without a hook!
If my fly is down, That's a good thing.

Public Access.....It's a shore thing. My daily requirement of "Vitamin Sea".

Here you go.

The front hook will be cut off when the fly is completed.

So much clearer right now.

I hope down the line here, when anyone explains a "How to"  they also include a picture.

Everyone has a cell phone, every here has the opportunity.

Just so much easier to comprehend.

Picture is worth a thousand words.

Nice ties but in some of them the proportions are off: the tentacles of a squid are about one-third of the lenght of the head/body. For an interesting thread on squid flies see  "Striped bass squid flies", June 160, 2018, on the Fly Fishing Forum. That being said, they will no doubt catch!

Iv been considering the importance of transparency lately as an area I fish endures a mighty swarm of hatchling squid that scarcely resemble the colors or structure most patterns replicate.

When color seems to matter more than anything and fish are choosier than a blonde at the bar,  iv found a translucent approach achieves better commitment when they're hatchling class.  Will be trying that this season with high hopes

Translucence can be achieved with sparseness of materials.  Following are tying steps to a Banana Squid with some personal modifications.  And a video of how it swims in current  It can of course, be tied shorter, but with a resulting reduction in swimming action - see second video.

Agree on the proportions statement.

Mine are way out of whack having caught a lot of squid while jigging for them at night in the past.

With that said, the salmon out here don’t really seem to care much about the proportions. A lot of salmon have been released onto the BBQ over the years on rubber hoochie squid.  ;)
