hardhat
Today after fishing, i was putting the rod in the car and I hit the tip. The guide itself didn't break just the insert. Do I have to get it fixed or can I just glue it in.
AMMO
The tip doesn't even get wrapped, just some kind of hot glue. It's a cheap repair. Buy a new tip-top at your local tackle shop, and they will probably put it on for free, while you wait. (CAUTION: Don't try this at K-Mart or Dicks! Go to a place that sells bait.) Maybe someone from your area would suggest where? It doesn't pay to try and put the old one back, it could pop out again at an inopportune time and truncate a trip, or worse. TWorms
Tip replacement guides are not much $$$. Better off replacing it , the better tackle shops that build rods on site or sell components,/most will replace it while you wait.... Heat gun or a propane torch to loosen and remove the old broken tip , then fresh glue and new tip installed, cools in a few minutes. Back in business.... My rod and my reel , thy comfort me ... AlwaysWading
I guessing the ceramic insert didn't come out in one piece. In any case ,like already said replace it.Fuji makes repair kits you can buy.It comes with different size tip-tops and a hard glue stick. You don't need a propane torch or heat gun,you could just use a lighter.Heat -up the old tip-top and remove it.Then, heat up the glue stick and apply the softened glue to the end of the rod and put on the new guide. buz23
This is a case where you go to the tackle shop. The good ones have a plano box full of different size tip tops and can find one and glue it on for a few bucks. The ones I've seen in the Fuji kits are freshwater sized and not very heavy duty. redhawk19
Good info here. When you go to a shop to get it replaced, buy a few extra tips and some tip glue. There are some you tube videos out there on replacement. You can do it in a few minutes and not loose a fishing session..... You should take it to a shop the first time though. Some of the companies use epoxy and its a PITA to get off that first one.

blackdogfish
Ironically I was going to post the same thing this morning. My problem is that I'm up in Vermont and the local B&T have never seen a salt water rod. I prowled around SW* and Tackledirect website but saw nothing. Also perused Amazon but many different kits and not good descriptions on sizes or applicability to salt-water rods. Anyone have advice on where to purchase online tips for a surf rod? This rod is made with Fuji Hardloy guides. Any idea on the sizing? 10-12? Saw a Fuji Hardloy tip on Amaz*n for a few bucks. Also saw several for $42 bucks plus $7 shipping!!! That's nuts. Africaster
Thanks everyone. I should make covers like they do for golf clubs, I have a few broken tips. Hey HardHat, if you have a few that are broken, I'd reconsider the way you load/store your rods. Any society that charges it's own children for knowledge, is doomed to fail. hardhat
I'm usually careful with my rods. Until I'm done with a long day of fishing and I'm tired, I just want to get the stuff back in the truck, that's when it happens.
