rst3
Enjoy your fish, man. Please. There are many fishermen who release 99% of fish (and who get their main kicks watching a bass regain vigor then swim away).. but they still keep a few for the table each season. And geezers- if you were in a situation where it's the fish or you??- welp! "Sorry, Bassy! It's uh, gotta be me this one time!" Fishing kills me exactly as it keeps me alive. Haha, I didn't mean to start support group here, but that does help a bit. I really should've kept a better eye on the swell, but lessons learned for next time. And I never said I don't enjoy fresh striper Tight lines the rest of the weekend! Edited June 18, 2017 by DanTheBassMan Serious pullage.

Twisted
Have people experienced finding bait (macks) a little of a struggle this season so far? I haven't fished yet much due to kids commitments, work etc. but the few times I have the macks have been scarce. Just wondering...
Dah seee
Fished a popular jetty in Gloucester yesterday. When I arrived to the spot it looked very promising for stripers with the low fog, overcast sky and easterly wind. I plugged for 2 hours and not even a sniff. I ended up switching to flounder when the sky cleared up and got a few for the dinner table. Word of mouth, the mackerel fishing was really good two weeks ago. rst3
Ive heard quite a few areas from the NS through SS have struggled with delayed/scattered/absent macks. Other regions have seen decent numbers of both the bigger horse macks at times, as well as tinkers. Throwing darts here.. but perhaps the slow warm up in SSTs, along with an abundance of mack food elsewhere, has altered their "normal" movement & patterns along the Mass coast. Or.. could just be an off year for mack population. Or a 'Down-cycle' or something. Guess only Neptune knows. Fishing kills me exactly as it keeps me alive. evan1
Caught this around 9 oclock tonight on a yo-zuri minnow. I was very surprised when I hooked this as all I had caught at this spot before were tiny schoolies. He was promptly released after this photo was taken! bass02
Hello all, Obviously I'm new to this forum and I'm relatively new to the area. Not looking to burn any spots, but I would like to get on some stripers from shore. I very much prefer fishing artificials, and I have an assortment of bucktails and metals. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it. I've done a decent amount of fluke fishing down in NJ from the surf, but I haven't had much success fishing from the surf up here for bass, flounder, blues, or anything really. Thanks! Use navionics and Bing or Google maps to find places where current meets transition points. Sand to rocks or bars also help. Start by targeting river mouths or pinch points. Fish at night. Fish near the bottom. Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. -Thoreau

MBean5
What is a transition point? Basically what he means by "transition point" is a place where water meets some sort of object or interference. Ex. Land, jetty, island, rock pile, river mouth, etc. Edited June 20, 2017 by MBean5
