I understand the split with an injury. You need 14 or 14.5 points to win. Without the point you could have no winner.  Besides, it’s a gentleman’s game not a blood sport.
And the fans were an embarrassment

Its been a long standing rule, had it occured on friday or saturday, no problem getting a fill in. But since it was singles matches both captains agreed the envelope rule would be played and both teams would recieve one 1/2 point. Should a player have to  dropped out due to injury or the like.

Why the Rule Was Invoked
Hovland's Injury: Hovland suffered a flare-up of a previous neck injury, a disc bulge in his neck, which made it impossible for him to rotate his neck and play.
The Envelope Rule: The rule was agreed upon by captains prior to the event to ensure teams remained evenly matched if an injury occurred on the opposing side.
The Outcome: Because Hovland couldn't play, the U.S. captain, Keegan Bradley, had previously put Harris English's name in a sealed envelope. As per the rule, English then sat out, and the Hovland vs. English match was awarded a half-point to each team.

and now you know the rest of the story, good day

Yes the envelope rule. Harris Engkish was actually picked prior to the match. It just so happens he was in a match with the injured player. Prior to the matches the captain had to pick his least favorite player and put it in a sealed envelope in case of injury.  Can you imagine..Many years the envelopes were actually burned.Lanny Watkins put his own name in one year and Steve Pate got in a bd car crash and could not play. Has    to be a terrible job.

I agree we did not shine as hosts.
Honestly though, those accents sounded more like Jersey to me.

Not even close...those are Lawn Guyland shitbirds....you can't pin that garbage behavior on NJ....bad enough NY sent Staten Island trash all those year ago to Seaside and made people think 'Jersey Shore' was made with Jersey shore residents :squid:

I get that it's a gentleman's sport...that's why I'm find with the team that forfeits only give the team that was capable of playing 1/2 a point. But no way should the team that forfeits because they couldn't field a team should get anything - they should consider it a victory only losing 1/2 a point.

Anyway, it ended up being a pretty exciting Sunday watch...Carole was away, I played Rossmoor in the morning and came home and watched the recorded golf. I was pleasantly shocked it wasn't a blow out...it even looked like, beyond any kind of reason, the US might actually pull it off

At Rossmoor, I started double - double - blew up first two holes :blackeye: Then played the next seven with five pars and two birds :beers: So unlikely to start double double and shoot 38 on that side...what a wonderful game this is :)

Congrats on the European team. I hope they all enjoy their nice plane ride back to Florida.

Yea, I think living in Europe should be the bare minimum to make the European team  If you live in the US and play on the PGA tour, it shouldn't matter where you were born :squid:

Imagine just for a moment if TimS was yanked from the crowd to fill in for Hovland......everyone on the left side of the fairway (including on Par 3s) would need to sign a waver, , ambulances would have to be standing by, Carole would have a beer thrown at her. and Brandel Chamblee would do 15 minute rant of why people should by newer equipement to improve their game......and if the US won, TimS would be on Jimmy Kimmel

Let the envelope rule stand

The folks on the right side would need to sign a waver as well...I've been pulling like 15% of my drives...they go a mile...into the other fairway :bucktooth:

If anyone throws a beer at Carole they are gonna have a multitude of problems to process that goes way beyond my reach :)

The envelope rule should be changed - my suggesting is 1/2 a point to the team that was able to provide a person for that match...and 0 points for the team that forfeited :read:

wait, I thought you were slicing?   so you have over compensative with a perfectly timed over the top?

The envelope rule, keep it the same. The US has come out on top when they used it. Implemented in 1971- except for last week. The idea of the envelope rule is to make it clear which team actually won of 14 or 14.5 points with talent and scoring,  not won because of a whole point issued because someone got sick, car accident, irish flu or back injury

It's a mess...there are days when I can line up with an intentional pull...and crank it....then there are days when I can line up and expect my 20 yards fade and hit it out over the trees knowing it will come back. But I can't control either of them :freak: Every time I yank one down the right side, Kneel giggles...even when it goes deep into the woods...even when he's a 100 miles away doing something else  :beers:

The outcome of this cup isn't why I think the rule should be changed...it should be changed because in no other sport when you forfeit are you given any portion of a win :read: No way you should get half of a win for something you forfeited. Give the team that was ready to play either the whole point,  or in the spirit of a gentleman's game, give them 1/2 a point :)

It’s more like scratching the match without penalty.  Is there another game than provides relief through handicapping?
