Correct. They are also producing massive amounts of missles. They are going for a fast and cheap offense to overpower our larger, more technologically advanced ships. 

 

America is as apathetic as it gets though. Especially when Dems are in charge. Don't believe me? Just look at what you guys did to the Border and now look at what Republicans did in less than a year. 

 

Democrats aren't good at protecting our Nation.

That's because Battleships are designed as expeditionary, Blue Water platforms. China is more interested in their fleet acting as hegemonic Pacific force, not a long-range "Global; Force for Good," a la the U.S. Navy motto until about a decade ago. 

 

China's Navy is already larger than ours: smaller, more agile ships and with significant built in redundancy. They can be everywhere, all at once in the Pacific Rim. You see their Navy harassing foreign-flagged merchant vessels all the time, particularly when it comes to international fishing grounds. If you've never heard or seen any videos of China's vast Ghost Fishing Fleet, google it when you have a moment. It's breathtaking: large supply "motherships" that sit outside of fishing grounds like around the Galapagos islands and just resupply the smaller fishing fleet, take in the catch and return to China. And when the mothership is on its way back to the mainland, there's already another mothership in its place to allow unfettered 24/7-365 fishing to keep their population fed. 

 

In my professional opinion, China isn't interested in global dominance the way we see it, with a fleet capable of deploying anywhere at any time and projecting authority. They'd much rather have regional dominance and "ownership" of Asian traderoutes, forcing the global economy to come to them and deal with China on Chinese terms.

i hear Trump’s next order is that he all ground troops will be issued bolt action rifles with gold plates barrels.

@SaltyRugger what's your take on the proposed Trump Battleships?

 

I did see one other detail of interest today, on the armyrecognition dot com blog. The ships are to be powered by combined diesel and gas (turbines), a CODAG arrangement, so we're not limited to our two nuclear-capable yards.

And yet, they are also building aircraft carriers. The Fujian is now commissioned and starting service; at 80K tons she is the largest non-American carrier in service anywhere. Construction has started on a new carrier that may be nuclear powered.
