LI BeachRat
Ok I was without power for almost five days but with some forward thinking was able to get by. I can also understand those still without not being happy but. Cuomo shooting off his big mouth will not get one line up any faster. LIPA has brought in crews from all over the country they are working 16 hour days, some sleeping in their trucks with no place else to stay. How much more can they do. As a ex telco lineman who has worked storms in the past you can only work so fast. If some lineman gets killed because of Cuomos pushing he will have blood on his hands, lets be real he is just posturing to make himself look good. If Cuomo's wants to do something how about getting us some gas. In Newsday a owner of 50 gas stations on the Island ( all have electric ) has said he only got gas for 2 ? Where's the gas? FEMA using the DOD was to send 5000 gallons to Freeport it never got there and the State is not talking, why? Hey big mouth where's the GAS!!!!!!! Rip-Line
He has to blame someone since he does not have the brains to implement a temporary gas system to ease the lines. He rather just say it will return to normal, but not sure when. He finds that acceptable.

Ravenar
im hearing a rumor. That gas is coming in, but in NY they need to add ethanol. And that is the issue. If they would just let pure gas in the crisis would stop. I heard this a couple of times from different people. If this is true, someones head should roll. To hell with Ethanol...Get the gas in. FishinKid007
Can someone explain to me what is NY State's benefit from adding Ethanol to gasoline? I can see the politics if we were in KS lets say, but in NY State? On the negative side: It results is higher food prices engine performance degradation Slot Limit for Striped Bass; 1 fish 26"-34" Save the Porgy; Bring Back 10 fish daily limit
striperfly
Cleaner air. In theory. Oxygenates have been mandated in gasoline for decades. It used to MTBE until it F'd up groundwater in a serious way. (Every gas station leaks, or will leak. Just the nature of the beast.) Ethanol is the replacement. It's added at the distribution terminal level, and gets the owners of the equipment a decent tax break per gallon as an incentive. ($.50 a gallon, or close to it). They'd never give that $ up to get you gas faster. The lobbying to mandate Ethanol was done by car companies so they could meet air emission targets, after NY and CA banned MTBE. Large agri-business (Archer Daniels, etc.) loves it because they get more $ from corn as Ethanol than food. Performance degradation is because you're diluting the energy density of gasoline. Mike_Z
Ethanol is expensive and environmentally dirty to produce. Not to mention that burning food (corn) may be deemed insensitive in some circles. It's a great benefit for politicians though who get a huge bribes... sorry I meant donations from the agricultural lobby.
Iannotti
I see it on the gas pumps but *** does ethanol actually do ? Is it supposed to be cleaner? Is my engine taking more damage?
FishinKid007
They lifted the ethanol requirement. Maybe Mario is trolling around here??? I don't know the exact science but as an oxygenate it reduces CO2 emissions. No engine damage unless your engine is older than the mid 80's or so. They dropped the requirement huh? I'm curious if the difference in engine performance will be noticeable. Wait on line for three hours and then do a burn out leaving the gas station. Grimlock11
LIPA is a disorganized mess. They could bring 50,000 workers in that doesn't amount to a hill of beans. They are not organized and do a terrible job. They do not utilze the man power wisely. Do you know why guys are sleeping in their trucks??? They are making crazy $$$$$ OT. Tha is their job for which they get paid for. They have too many crews concentratd in certain areas and they are tripping over each other. I wasnt suppose to get power back until this Monday...the only reason I got it back is a worker leaves a block away he swung by when he was supposed to be in Huntington and got the power in 25 minutes and was out. Why couldnt they have one guy to come by???? They have about 11,000 workers with only 200,000. Wait unitl we get the bill for this. The LIPA idiots who prune trees are the worse. I called them for 8 years to cut a branch haging over the pwer lines , they refuse to cut it. Guess why the power was out in the neighborhood??? Now the branch is cracked in half and they fools still wont cut it. The pruners came by yesterday and cut branches that wouldnt hurt a baby if they fell. I called them last night and we shall see how that goes. But I know I'll probably have to deal with it. LIPA sucks, unorganized and counterproductive. Yeah let's get fatso Christie here because everything is fine and dandy in NJ. I heard there is no gas shortage and the area has been rebuilt already, good for him. A big fatso who cannot even control what he shoves in his mouth. Just because he sounds off on camera doesnt make him great. Cuomo has done as good of a job that fatso. pakalolo
I've had a company from North Houston in my area , they got power back to us in 48 hours. Last night a crew from asplundh had to cut a tree off of a pole with wires on the ground, power was out for 4 hours with a crew from Oklahoma dealing with cutting and restoring power. While this was going on 4 LIP trucks drove by, did a U turn and let. Saw them later, parked in a deli parkinglot. zTHOSE HAVE BEEN THE ONLY LIPA TRUCKS IN NORTH SEA SINCE THE STORM!!!!! ******* pitiful response by our own power company. IN FAVOR OF COMMERCIAL FISHING AND SURFING THE NORTH SIDE MAY THE RICH GET RICHER!! FISH ARE FOOD!!
