Billy 40
chartreuse grub . Could not believe I didn't get a searobin on it Sea Robin HACK!! lol. Thats' a good trip, with that many people, fishing is impossible. Stayed local Saturday, spent 2 hours at the FJ, caught about 20 Fluke, with 2 being NY keepers 18 & 19". Most fish were caught less than 15 feet from the edges & front of the jetty. Fish hit on top, they chased the bait and WHALED it, it was a lot of fun. Sunday sucked, 5 fish right away then all the fish went and hid from teh sun. I stayed out there for almost 2 hours in teh sun without a hit. Got hot, REALLY hot around 6:30, not supposed to get that hot that early. GOTTOG
I swear, each drift I'd get a fish on the first two casts. After that, it was "work" for the fluke. Little blues hitting while reeling in was annoying. Hey, picked up the phone right as you hung up. Called back after watching a movie but no answer. Guess you went to bed early so you'd be refreshed to smack revolving doors around Team Goats
Gamakatsu
I was very close to fishing the Frances Fleet Saturday morning after my Friday charter but when I awoke at 5 AM it was extremely foggy but the main reason I didn't go was because I didn't feel like suffering through the late afternoon/early evening traffic heading back to NJ on I-95. Sounds like a great trip. Where were you guys fishing? If I can swing it, I'd like to get up there again this summer. We were just west of the lighthouse most of the day. 40 feet of water. No birds, no dogs. Some beast seabass. Chartreuse was the color de jour. We lost a lot fish waiting for the net as the fish came in waves and the mates couldn't keep up when we went over pods of fish. Gonna try for one more trip if the fishing holds up. It seems like the best shot at truly large fish for headboat anglers for now.
Kneel
7/14/2006 - Gambler - PM Brutal wind v. tide. Fished the pipe. There would be a few flurries here ind ther but you really had to work hard. Saw one 4lber come over the rail and then slide through the scupper. Ouch. About 20 shorts, 2 nice sea bass and one keeper at about 3.49 lbs. Pool fish was 3.53 lbs. 7/17/2006 - Gambler - AM HOT. Barely a drift. Worked rough bottom for WAY too long. Picked up a couple REALLY nice sea bass and one fluke at 17". FINALLY moved in a little colser for the last drift. 3 drops, 3 more keepers. They musta likada schmeltz one that drift as I was the only one to pull fish. Final tally was 4 keepers to 19" and 2 seabass to 3lbs. Pool fish was around 5 lbs. just to my right. BrianZ
Saw something I have not seen since Tim and I beat on them a couple years ago... Big boat at the marina had a pile of 'mats yesterday. Big fish were 10.2, 9.5, 3 in the 8's and 7 more > 6#. I know the capt. and he would not talk, bastage. I got some clues though, gonna scope it out on Monday so how did it work out for ya? GOTTOG
Gottog, are the grubs the baits with the twisty tail? Yeah, originally they were called Swim Minnows, but I see they changed the name to Swim Mullets. 4" variety. em Wish they'd have a 6" one. They have a 6" split-tail version that I think they're calling the Swim Minnow now. Read a report elsewhere that they work quite well, but haven't tried any myself yet. Billy 40
Sea Pigeon trip today 7/19. Hot report off the deck, lol. 50+ fares, pool was $108, which was won by my Dad with a 3 1/2# fish. He and my Mom combined for 7 keepers total, and a steady supply of shorts from 8-noon. The guy next to my parents offered $10 for the rig they were using...and it went up to $15 after he caught the pool fish, lol. Pool fish was caught on a Tequlia Sunrise teaser which is an XL Specialty color which seems to works well on pool fish - this is the 3rd time in 5 PB trips my Dad won the pool with that color. My Mom won 1 of the other 2 trips, lol.
