This rod was 12 ft but the cork And reel seat were rotting so I cut the butt section off at the reel seat, it’s now a 8 ft rod. Taped on a greenie and rolled on some rubber o rings spacing them out and added some shrink tubing.4218EAA2-2529-4E9D-BBF1-42F19E3BC274.jpeg.1fc0a8e6ebd4e255b65e068a8e14a079.jpeg

Nice man how is the action on it once you cut it down ? And are you using this for a specific type of fishing?

Should've had a v8.

I just found exactly what I wanted I’m going with a double spiral hitch with some paracord and with some shrink wrap I need spacing this looks similar to what I did and with my rod but it will be a clean look aswell no more funny guys to deal with.  And figure I can still use the hockey tape for my freshwater rods  while the tommy tape would be for my inshore stuff as it will see the least amount of any type of water You guys are AWESOME ! :hi5:

The options with cord are just about infinite. You can do all kinds of creative things with wraps, weaves, knots, the whole bit. You can use different kinds of cords, some that need finish (like mason line, which is what I use most of the time), and some that don't (like paracord and tarred seiner's twine). And all of them can either be left exposed or covered up with shrink wrap. For many years I used naked cord almost exclusively, but I've recently come around to liking shrink wrap over it: you get all the benefits of a cord grip (durability is the primary one), but the shrink wraps make the grips easier on your hands. The one big drawback of cord grips, at least when they're left exposed, is that they can be hard on your hands, certainly harder than cork tape or a rubber grip like EVA.

If you like cord grips, once you've fished with a rod that has them, it's hard to go back to anything else, at least on surf rods. They're superior in just about every way to anything else.

Terri Mae does not approve this message, but screw him.

Gems! +1 for mono !  That wrap is very clean thanks for posting. Lost my light trying to find a mini like slot 2. but I probably won’t use it anyway I haven’t had one for a while.

Should've had a v8.

This is a old glass rod,  Believe it or not still has a lot of action I was using it in the spring time drowning  sandworms for bass.

Not many 8’s out there being you cut it at the seat what did you use for the back end/rear grip? As I have a rod I can possibly save. I can’t fish worms crabs get them before anything even if I float them. I prefer jelly worms.

This is what I did, this was originally 11’3’. I thought 12 but not so. I cut it at the top grip above the reel seat now making it 8’3”, taped a reel at 24” added rubber O rings spaced 2” apart and just added shrink tubeing over it with a heat gun.

I stayed with mono on the 712z because I wasn’t sure if braid would cut threw the old guides on the rod.

+1 for mono I like stretch while doing most bait fishing.

Should've had a v8.
