the site is fine . i think if the members put there questions or comments in the proper forum.the main page is for fishing only so if you broke that down to the other forums like fly ,boating ,kayak and kept the stuff that belongs in the tavern non fishing discussions like this thread then read the thread title to what you want to read. most of the stuff left would be about surf fishing

View PostSeriously - if you are gonna be disrespectful and rude to people, you should start your own website because that's the kind of garbage we do not welcome here.

Ok, so my original attempt at levity thru sarcasm did not work. Wasn't my intention to be disrespectful or rude. The main forum is already a fishing forum and because this site is SurfTalk it is primarily "surf fishing" topics. As on any public forum sites of this type, some people post topics in the wrong forum. Some might say the original post in this topic was in the wrong forum. I think the site owner and moderators do a tremendous job running this site given the enormity of the number of members and posts made.

Two comments:

1) I've learned more here over the past few years than anywhere else.. including all the books and magazines I've purchased... (way too many) love this site!!!!

2) I think a sub-forum dedicated to surf-fishing would be fantastic (this is what I love to do...).

Good suggestion by Merch!

For as long as I've been a member I've always assumed the Main Forum here was a Surf Fishing forum (being that it's called SurfTalk, duh). I do see boat-related posts on the main forum from time to time, I've always just regarded this as bad judgement on the part of the posters. I still consider this to be a Surf Fishing forum and see no need to create a sub-forum for that purpose.

While having a separate forum strictly dedicated to surf fishing may not necessarily be needed on this site, I think it would be a fantastic addition to the site. I see fly fishing, kayak fishing, bottom fishing and freshwater forums on the site; all of which have their own techniques and tactics. While I can agree the Main forum currently is the best place for questions relating to surf fishing, as noted above, too often it becomes a forum to dump the miscellaneous question (which I did when i first joined the forum).

I do not know if there would be an added expense to adding a new forum, but I truly cannot see the harm in adding it.

It all started last year during a terrible thunderstorm, when I locked myself out of the house. Shelving myself with a large piece of sheet metal, I ran for cover under the tallest tree I could find!

Actually, this thread belongs in the Main Forum smile.gif The Main Forum is for general fishing questions and 'site specific discussions' regarding this website - this thread is exactly where it belongs.

This website has grown so many thousands of times larger than ever could have been expected that it has changed in more ways than can be imagined. It's been a long time since it was just a striped bass website...a long time since it was just a surf fishing website...it's become more than just a fishing website even. It's a community. I agree, it might be time to add a specific surf fishing forum - the Main Forum has always been a catch all kinda forum regarding general fishing questions...maybe it's time for a surf fishing specific forum?

Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere.
Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

View Post...There's so many new threads flying up all the time it kind of makes me feel like I'm trying to cross the highway with my eyes closed....

Agreed.

There's so much good knowledge among the users of ST, but, man, there are waay too many threads.

I plug fish, I fly fish, I make attempts to tie flies, I run the beaches with my truck, I just got a kayak, I have a bunch of "old" plugs, and I freshwater fish so I read a lot of the forums. There is much cross over info in every forum.

Reading which plug the guy in the boat was using to catch bass may give me a starting point on plug selection when I am chucking one in the surf.

Would a "surf fishing" forum exclude any fly fishing info from the members that fly fish the surf - even though it is with a fly rod we are still "fishing the surf". confused.gif

cwm40.gif I was going to add a poll asking if you think a new forum is needed and if so would you be willing to moderate it but I didn't figure out how to add the poll - guess that excludes me from being a moderator

A forum dedicated to just "Surf / Shore" fishing would be nice, but is'nt that what the main forum was intended to be? here's my suggestion:

1) Main forum becomes surf / shore fishing strats - techniques only or give it it's own forum.

2) Tackle like rods, reels, lures, line, pliers, etc gets its own forum, or it can remain in main where it is.

3) Travel, spots, places to go etc gets their own forum.

This is what I figured happened. Which is good for you guys.

Seemed like an obvious question so I thought I'd ask. I haven't been around since you guys started this thing. smile.gif
