tjsteiner04
What type of wire do you guys mainly use? Single strand, multi strand, 49 strand, cable, etc? So many choices and was just wondering what most of you guys use and have success with in the surf. Thanks

katguy
either 2ft of single strand and 6ft of 200lb+ mono or 4ft multi strand (the twisted cable)and 4ft of 400lb mono as a pulley rig for casting. DON'T MAKE ME OPEN IT
gatorjwade
I use 18" of 250# coated cable with double crimps, swivel, then 5.5' of 250# mono with double crimps (this mono has a sliding swivel/clip for sinker with beads on each side of the sliding swivel), then top swivel. This is then connected to at least 30' of 80# (or stronger) PowerPro (for spinners that tend to wrap-up in your line). Pretty much as described as a casting rig on TexasSharkFishing web site. I haven't had one of these rigs fail yet on sharks up to 7' and they cast nicely with a surf rod.
whtkdtn1401
This is what I do. Â For the materials. Â I use 49 cable stranded wire either 275lb test or 480lb. I do not use single strand. Â My hook selection is Mustad 16/0 circle hook for majority of the times and for swievel selection, I use 350lb test barrel swievel because they are cheaper than other swievel but they are still very strong. Â And I use 300lb or 400lb test monofilament leader to make it as shock leader. Â When I put a hook on cable leader, I double crimp it and I do not put too close each other. I put first crimp on it and I put second one about an inch away from it. And I wrap the hook and crimped part with electrical tape. Â I give about 6-8ft cable leader and just single crimp the swievel on barrel swievel and tie 300lb or 400lb mono on other side to make it as shock leader. I also put about 10-12ft mono leader and I put pyramid sinker on this section. Once I put sinker on it, I put another swievel and tie the main line on to it. Â There goes my leader for shark fishing off the beach.
tjsteiner04
Not looking to catch anything major, maybe something in the 4'-5' range. Just curious on what type of wire/cable most of you guys use. Thanks for the replies.
kyjake
This one was caught on 15 lb. line with no leader.A set up that is castable with 7 strand from 50 lb. to 100 lb. leader should work for you.

Otherwise a bigger one might bite it.
whtkdtn1401
Its better to oversize your rig sometimes. I caught several sharks on small rigs as well. However, I lost more due to using small size rigs.
