Had some regulars out this morning who know how to make my job look easy. Fluking inside Barnegat Bay they caught 18 keepers to 19.5 " in four hours from start to finish.

Based on the MF I just cancelled tomorrow"™s trip frown.gif

Was part of a 4 man crew that fished aboard Capt. Allen's Reel Class in the Point Pleasant Elks Fluke Tournament. Mike & Bill rounded out the crew.

With the forecast for thunderstorms and with inshore ocean waters running 5-7' (later heard reports of the occasional 8' seas) we decided to play it safe and fish in the river.

Spent most of the morning fishing several hundered yards from the marina in 4-12' of water. Tackle choice for all was a one handed spinning rod with a matching reel. At the business end was either a 1/2 ounce leadhead or in my case a half ounce white Andros bucktail. Both these baits were tipped with a 4" GULP pink swimming minnow. Pink was very productive early but later in the day chartreuse and white were also taking fish. We made about a dozen drifts in this area taking fluke on every drift. By the time we decided to move to another local we had 11 keepers in the box out of about 35 fluke.

Moved to a side creek off the river and again had very good action. Unfortunately with the exception of one fluke alittle over 17"s every fluke was just under the legal size limit.

Next fished the channel opposite the dog beach and had nothing but short fluke. Finished the day fishing just off the bulkhead on the backside of the inlet where we found the smallest fluke of the day.

Never did find a fluke that would put us in the $$ but the second place fish of #7.4 was taken in the river so at least we had the right idea.

We finished with the 12 keepers for the 4 of us. We probably had 3-5 more that were right at 16.5"s that we decided to release in case our measuring skills were slightly off. All fish were taken on either a leadhead or bucktail with the exception of 1 fluke taken on a killie. Was nice fishing light tackle, even nicer not having to use any cut bait.

Went out on the OE out of Belmar Saturday. I managed an 8.2# fluke, 1 large seabass, and a small bluefish. I caught the big fluke with a yellow bucktail skirt with 2 orange beeds above it. I was also using live killies and fresh fluke belly.

Less than average amount of shorts and other fish due to the conditions but a decent day overall.

Jason and I decided to make a spur of the moment later afternoon/early evening magic hour trip after the weather cleared aboard the Misty Morn.

Had no idea what to expect but it beat staying home.

Fished the last half of the flood tide, coupled with a slight NE wind made for decent drifitng conditions.

Fished the green side of the Triangle the whole trip.

First keeper came over the rail within 2 minutes (this guy caught 3 keepers on the first drift but not another the rest of the time). Soon followed by another keeper. Things looked good.

Best I could do was a lone short on the first drift. Jason missed his only bite.

On the second drift I switched to a bucktail teaser rig (1 ounce Spro glow tipped with a 4" GULP pink swimming minnow with a 1/2" gummy shad 8"s above it as teaser. Took 2 keepers (1 one the Spro and the other on the gummy shad-both @17.5"s. Next drift, Jason worked the bucktail and I went back to dragging bait. I took my third keeper at the onset of this drift. Next drift we switched again and I took 3 shorts on the bucktail/teaser rig. At this point Jason only had 1 short and a few sea robins. I showed & coached him on how to use a light tackle bucktail set up. He soon got the hang of detecting the bottom with. Didn't take long for him to nail a keeper. As he was fighting that fish, I hooked into another keeper . That was pretty much it for us for the night.

We combined for the 5 keepers (my 4 to his 1). I also had 4 shorts, so 1:1 ratio is pretty darn good. All our keepers were in the 17-18" class.

13 fares put 24 keepers on ice. Pool winner was #4 on a rental rod (although the captain took a #5). High hook was 6.

Nice report and sounds like a nice evening w/your son! That boy is gonna be a scary fisher when he grows up. My plan w/ to go on the Big Mohawk but it truns out to have a broken shaft. I'm heading south to the Porgy in Cape May.

I'll post a report.

Thanks and take care.

Theresa and I both limited out yesterday on the Sea Pigeon. Nothing big but decent keepers. She had 2 on live snappers and all the rest of ours were on bucktails tipped with Gulp.

Others onboard ranged from 1 to 5 keepers. A decent pick of fluke overall smile.gif

You know, I was feeling pretty good myself for getting 4 keepers last evening.

Great job with you and T each limiting out. clapping.gif
