nycjjd
I have never understood fishermen who call environmentalists "ecotards" and "commies" and "tree huggers". The Striped Bass was SAVED by people who pushed for regulations and environmental protection. The 1970 Clean Water Act was the result of "ecotards" who had the crazy idea that the Cuyahoga River shouldn't spontaneously catch on fire. If it weren't for the "ecotards" there wouldn't be a reason for Stripersonline to exist.
Livefreeordie
IMO its the left vs right paradigm. Some on the right will shoot guns at trees, just to spite the "tree huggers." Some on the left feel they need to drag repuglickens kicking and screaming into the realities of the 21st century. Many lefty conservation efforts are misguided, and those who throw babies out with bathwater are willing to actively assault any liberal leanings in an effort to defend "tradition." I imagine truth about eco-issues should be evaluated by case to case methods. As for me, my feelings got a boo-boo last time I talked to a conservative, so I'm ignoring them until after Obama is re-elected.

If you want to talk to someone who's knowledgable and dedicated to saving fish species, talk to a fisherman. nycjjd
Really? The people who supported, wrote and enacted the environmental regs that saved the Striped bass and put an end to the ocean dumping in the NY Bight are well meaning idiots? All of them? And yes, there are plenty of fishermen who police themselves when it comes to releasing undersized fish etc. There are also plenty who punt them back into the ocean. The people who came up with the info necessary to save the striped bass are SCIENTISTS. The idiots are the people who go on a fishing website and tell knowlegable fisherman who have supported the fisheries with their hard earned dollars that they shouldn't keep legal fish. The idiots are the ones that think the dead bycatch thrown overboard by trawlers is insignificant compared to a guy and his grandson fishing off a jetty. You know, those idiots. Oleg195
This is a post #194 about 6 legal fish taken in a 3 weeks! I'm wondering how much "buz" it will create about let say 2 undersized fish?
