Bill Klein
As per the usual, it's a generally slow pick from the local waters, settled on in to our familiar summer doldrums with no shortage of unpleasant insects and some remarkably hot weather. The tasty kingfish, spot, and blues have been taken in fair numbers, and there's a decent showing of sharks for those so inclined. As always, this is the place for your reports... as little or as much detail as you care to share, with hopefully a good bit less focus posted on exact spots and locations. Any and all word from the local waters welcome here, and "no fish" reports are welcome as well; always good to have gotten out there at least, wasn't it? SharkHunter
Caught a few spot at day break today out front using fishbites. Later in the day I saw some larger species caught and released while still in the water.
SharkHunter
Early AM at DSSP today yielded spot, croaker, kingfish and a 19 inch flounder. All but spot caught on cut spot and blue fish strips, slowly retrieved after casting as far as I could. Used a 2 oz inline sinker with about a foot of 80# leader material with a smaller hook. Hammy
Not a surf fishing report, but instead OC inlet and West Channel area. NOT A SINGLE FLOUNDER was caught yesterday afternoon/evening. Croaker seem to be running good this year, having to try and avoid them again yesterday, and I even caught some larger ones yesterday, 13 or 14 inches. Caught about 20 total (kept three in the 13-14 inch rainge) and caught one large ray. It was a bit choppy, but water seemed clear. Anyone nailing the flatties in the past couple days? crazybellringer
I didn't see one flounder at ai all weekend . The whiting were there and easy to catch so that is what i did. Are whiting always easy to catch? Do they count? I thought maybe they don't count because the only fishing i have ever done that was easier was sunny fishing. Last year i was down there it was fluke til noon, this time just non stop whiting.

The whiting and spot were biting good and every once and a while a school of small blues would blitz the beach.

Try using Croaker Strips .. It doesnt stop them from biting but it helps curb them from hitting your bait every time I sent ya a PM also .. Didnt want to spot burn

jeepcreep
Family vacation this week! Spot and kings in the morning surf everyday, except today. Wind changed last night is all I can figure for the shut down. My wife has kindly agreed to get our son situated in the mornings so I can go toss a line. I take him for his afternoon nap.......he's been napping in the truck on the OSV fro 2 hours everyday while I try and find flounder. Life is good The fish are someplace else, unless your somplace else; in which case they are somplace elser.
SharkHunter
sMy fishing reports seem to be a compilation of the second half of the previous day and the morning of the day I post it. This report is from 8/2 afternoon and 8/3 morning. Caught a few flounder, shorties, using strips of spot that I caught using fishbites. 4 inch strip of spot on size 1 hook retrieved slowly through the water. Most hits came from just behind the wash. I figure the flounder are waiting just far enough back to ambush anything swimming along the shoreline current. It seems you have to place the bait near the flounder, as the flounder don't go looking for the bait. Caught a few small throwback kings on cutbaits. Caught many spot that will be used for bait later today if the weather permits.
mbrupb
How do you guys cut up your strip baits for kings/flounder? Is it a similar presentation to a thin tapered squid strip for flounder? Whats the best way to cut a spot/croaker up into strips to maximize the number of baits? Thanks for any info.
Salt Roach
Caught a bunch of flounder in the back channels in Lewes Saturday. No keepers one 17 inch. Drifting minnows and minnow artificial combo.

Usually I spray them down with Duppy repellant. Then I use thin strips but thick enough so they stay on the hook.
sakkadad
Is it just me or has anyone else seen way fewer bluefish in the surf this year? I literally haven't caught one yet.
