@Heavy Hooksetter i seal my plug with epoxy right after I turn it on the lathe, I pour it into the holes till it comes out the other end and then just rub the outside with more of it completely coated, then let it dry, sand, prime, paint, then 3 coats of epoxy , what epoxy do you prefer, I use devcon since I don’t have a turning wheel

@Heavy Hooksetter never made them that big only up to 7 inches, i try to stick to what i know, but I’ll keep that 8-10 inch in mind, I’ll make some and I’ll test them out, it won’t be hard for me to do, I have a passion for making this metal lips, do you have any experience using pine plugs, I know maple is good also but it weights a little more and probably takes more of a beating, there’s no way to upload videos on here on the action of some of my plugs

you can upload videos here,I do in AVI format.

maybe we could do a trade but,it has to be in the BST forum.

9 inch is my fave size and the plugs you have in the second pic are to my liking,,,

the third and fourth one are really sharp and I would love to fish them in 9 inch sizes.

anyhow.

I do have very few that are,i don't remember which ones they are.

since pine is light I don't use it much and now not at all.

I love old growth poplar,it has weight[for casting with winch reels]and takes sealing very well.

also it is easy to smooth and work with.

I find my wood at my job, mostly from the stringers on skids, when I see a skid with poplar stringers and they are 3x3 or 4x4,it will be missing one after I'm done with it.

maple is heavy and I have found it is great for poppers but swimmers it waggles a lot less or not good at all without a wide lip, just my experience.could be off on that.

anyhow, you are doing good, keep it up.

1st shot is after sealing[in polyurethane for 2 days] and drying for a week.

2nd shot is before sealing + added one more that was still in the sealer.

these are all poplar if memory serves me right, could be sugar pine.
