Posted this same stuff in a few other threads but overall it's been slower then normal for this time of year -at least for me. There was some Blues just off Little Nahant last Sunday and the weekend before we hit some nice ones out at Egg Rock but overall I'd said it's been tough -especially for Stripers on any size. I'd like to see at least one or two more blitzes before the month ends....maybe...just maybe...

OK fellas....enough with the negativity mad.gif

I have a free pass for the weekend and plan on hitting it hard on the North Shore...I've heard there's been some decent activity a bit north of us and I take that as words of encouragement. The fall crawl might still pick up to a jog this weekend, maybe even a full run!! Won't know unless we get out there and throw some casts...I will try to post some updates if I'm getting into any fish. Hope you guys get into some fish, willing to trade some intel if anyone else is out this weekend!

Tight lines!

From today's Lynn Item (online at least)

Fish On!: The Fall Run has begun

By Joe Holey / For The Item

The Fall Run has begun. It's that time of year again that we fishermen both love and hate. We love it because with the Fall Run comes the best fishing of the season. We hate it because it marks the beginning of the end of another summer and fishing season. Kay Moulton of Surfland Bait put it best when she said, "It's been a tale of two oceans lately." While some are having a great Fall Run, others are finding it frustrating, as it's been hit or miss at their regular fishing spots. As we get into October, striper fishing will reach its peak before they head south to spawn, and we should start seeing those massive topwater blitzes that are typical of the Fall Run soon. With the incredible amount of bait that has remained in our area throughout the summer, we should have fantastic fishing well into October, so don't put away that gear just yet!

Here's a look at our areas:

Boston Harbor

Not much has changed here, and that's a good thing! Fishing remains excellent throughout the Harbor, with topwater surface feeds in the mornings, and pogie action throughout the day. It still doesn't matter whether you fish day or night, low or high tide, the action has been great. Pogies are the bait of choice right now, and they are literally everywhere in the harbor. Chunk pogie on the bottom with a fishfinder rig, or live lined will give you a shot at a monster bass. Snake Island, Long Island, Wollaston Beach, Winthrop Beach, and Deer Island are all producing trophy size stripers.

Lynn/Nahant

Our area is heating up, not to full fledged Fall Run status yet, but it's getting there. Surfcasters are taking keeper stripers from Revere Beach on chunk baits and clams, and Lynn Beach has been producing keeper sized bass as well during the day on the Santini Tube n' Worm rig. Pogies are reportedly in Lynn Harbor by the yacht clubs in the morning. Guys are doing good again from the rocks of East Point, Nahant, and Bailey's Hill fishing chunk baits. Egg Rock was a hot spot this week, giving up a beautiful 45-inch striper to angler James J. Galvin. It weighed in at 37 pounds at the Swampscott Yacht Club. Well done, Sir! Look for our area to only get better within the next 2 weeks.

Salem/Marblehead

Reports are dismal here for some reason. Accomplished anglers have gotten skunked all week fishing Salem Harbor, Beverly Harbor, and the Islands. Soft plastics, chunk bait, plugs, eels at night, all time tested fish producers, have failed as of late. Even the Kayak crowd had a tough week, with only a few small bass to show for their efforts. Where it picked up for a week, it's slowed right down again. So move on to other areas if it remains slow.

Cape Ann/Newburyport

Like Kay said, "it's been a tale of two oceans." Of all her diehard fishermen that report daily, it's pretty much a split. One day the river will be fishing well and that's the only place fishing well. Another day the Oceanfront will be. The next day the refuge will be, and so on. There have been a few bass weighed in the shop this week between 20-30 pounds, so putting in the time and locating the fish here is key. Cape Ann is still seeing mackerel just outside the Harbor, and there have been bass and blues blitzing on top in the mornings all over Cape Ann. The Annisquam River has been good, with most action on plugs and clams.

Fishing this weekend?

A big school of large stripers seems to have moved into our area from Swampscott to Boston, so fishing all along our shore should be great. Boston Harbor is still the place to go for that 50 pounder, and with all the pogies there it's not hard to figure out why. Big bass just seem to be stacked there right now. From Revere Beach to Deer Island, surfcasters should throw a weighted chunk of pogie from the beaches. Don't be shy about using a big pogie head, as the heads have actually been working better as of late. Remember, big bait, big fish. Boat guys, swimming plugs, topwater plugs and Santini tube n' worms are taking quality fish. And look for the birds!

....

Well I know where I'll be Saturday morning smile.gif -but seriously, for me it has been hit or miss but there have been some positive signs.....
