LI_Angler
I have a Penn Clash 4000 and a Penn Slammer IV 4500. Both have auto bail trip features. Since I always flip the bail manually, I am wondering if there is a way to deactivate the auto bail trip mechanisms in these reels. As it gets colder and the off season gets closer for me, if it is not too difficult, I'd like to try it as an off-season project for next year. Thanks. C.Robin
Yes, most reels you can just remove the auto bail trip. Download the reel schematics and then open it up, I’ve done it for a few reels and it’s always been easy. LI_Angler
So I haven't looked at the schematics yet but am curious if this is easily reversible to restore the auto trip function. Don't see why I would want to, but just in case. "The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad." -- A.K. Best --
mark d
Yes, nothing to it. Youtube probably has something. Reel maintenence forum is a good resource as well, good luck "what good are tractors without violins" ? jose figueres
Fishjerk
The Penn slammer has a removable trip ramp underneath the rotor. This is the best way to convert to a manual bail on that model. I don’t see that option on the clash schematic. If you ask in the Penn forum, they can usually give you the part # to remove from the autotrip assembly. Should be reasonably easy to reverse and restore autotrip capability.
