I am using it as a boat rod. I guess I will definitely rinse down the rods with freshwater to prevent corrosion.

I have a rod with Pac Bay chrome stainless steel guides and want to know whether it is safe to use a round braid.
-
What rod guides are not okay to use with braid? Or was that something bad in the day when braid line was not as round? Will Pac Bay stainless steel guides be ok with powerpro?
-
Would these rods be okay to use braid line? They appear to have an old style conventional wire guides.

Sometimes I wonder if Marylanders call striped bass rockfish because they fight like a rock. Heavy weight, sometimes lacking resistance. worst fighter= crappie.....they feel like reeling in a piece of paper.

In the Chesapeake Bay, we have people landing 50 inch stripers on 2500 and 3000 size reels. Unless you are fishing crazy currents, there is not reason you can't land large stripers within reasonable time on light tackle with braid.

Is anyone else planning to get the Penn Battle II? The new one is supposedly nicer and the price tag will remain the same. Anyone with more experience with reel designs know how do the new features mean in the real fishing world? I have owned a Battle 4000 I for over 2 years now and think it has been a solid reel for the price. It is not as smooth as my Shimano Sahara but the metal construction really makes a difference using the heavier end of its drag capacity. I landed my PB shore striper at 33 inches and a 40 inch blue catfish on this reel. I see the Battle I being sold at discounted prices all over the internet. I want another 4000 size reel and was wondering should I wait for the Battle II or just get the Battle I at a cheaper price.

How big of a fish can these things handle? Which one is the best? They are much cheaper than boga grips but the plastic is still making me doubtful. I want something that I can safely land 50 pound plus blue catfish from a small boat.

Has anyone actually used this reel? I am still very skeptical that a 100-130 dollar reel is outperforming reels over twice that price. For me, if this reel can outperform spinfisher V's, quantum cabos, fin-nor offshore spinner, and the new spheros, it is a winner. I was very impressed by Alan Hawk's review. Also, I realized that the 100 size is being back ordered on most websites. Also, for 130 dollars, would it be better just to use a conventional casting reel- looking at a 30# mono or 50# braid outfit?

What would be a good outfit to take out a 1-3 day tuna trip out of San Diego? Looking at spending about $250 on rod and reel- probably for 40# class tackle. I would like the reel to be castable Also, how big of a tuna can 40# realistically land on a boat where chasing fish is not an option? How much line capacity is needed? I have returned from my 4 weeks of Navy summer training in San Diego and got to do an overnight trip for tuna and yellowtail. There were 38 anglers with 41 fish landed. I managed to hook and land 2 yellowtails and a yellowfin tuna. I used the rental outfit- penn jigmaster and seeker rod. some ideas Shimano tld 25 Penn senator 4/0 Daiwa Sealine Daiwa seagate Rods ugly stick tiger shimano teramar Whatever I get will also double as a monster blue cat hauling combo.

I will definitely look into it. Ideally, I would like the rod to be fiberglass. I realize whatever I found should be overkill for striper and blue catfish and still able to handle tuna under 60 pounds without fighting forever. Typical tuna on single day San Diego party boats are in the 15-50 pound range, but you don't want the fish to tangle everyone's lines (nothing less than 20# tackle, 30 is standard).

Are there any decent conventional travel rods for under 150 dollars? A 2 piece would work as well. I want something durable for casting to yellowtail and schoolie tuna on the west coast but also live line for stripers and monster blue catfish cranking on the east coast. looking at something 7-8ft and handles 20#-40# line planning to match it with a daiwa sealine slx 50.

I will be staying at the Navy Lodge. Would it be productive to just fish the surf in front of it or venture out to the jetty? -

I will be in San Diego in two weeks and plan on taking a MH 8ft 6 travel rod plus a ML 7ft spinning rod. I will be in and around Coronado Island. lures I am bringing: 2 inch grubs plastic minnow plugs from 3-5 inches jighead and swimbaits What are some species I can expect to catch? What lures/bait should I use? I have experience in the following: SW-light tackle striper fishing, casting metals for bluefish and spanish mackerel, bottom fishing and jigging off piers FW-catfish, shad, bass, crappie, and sunfish fishing I grew up in South Carolina and now attend the Naval Academy.

Anyone know where I can download a good screaming drag ringtone? I need an effective alarm clock and I think this will be the best way to ensure I do not just hit the snooze button.

33 inches on a 4 inch tsunami shad penn battle 4000 with 20# fireline on a 8ft shimano termar/my swimbait rod released

Recently, I have had lots of luck finding stripers along a shoreline area of the Chesapeake Bay. I have been using tsunami swim shads and light tackle jigging to catch stripers from 12 to 26 inches from shore. Using tsunami shads, I had several instances where the fish swim to my lure and bump it without getting hook. In fact, I even saw a curious striper swim beside my lure and ignore eating it. Using a jighead and jerkbait, they seem to hit more aggressively and actually get hooked. I was even able to get follow up strikes. Is this situation a matter of getting the reaction strike vs hunger? Do striper commonly sample forage? I though the simply swallow head first?
