victorjg
Hi When I paint my lures and use white as color, I finish them with enviro-tex at the beginning the finish looks completely clear, but with the time (days) the white turns yellow, How may I keep the finish completely clear? Now and for ever? Thanks Victor Garcia

Ed White
Never had etex yellow on me, not when fresh, not years later. Maybe something in your process? Are you using wooden stir sticks? I have heard this could cause issues... "Can You Hear Me, Doctor?"
TheSpaniard
BLO and other similar sealers can cause that really bad if it is not fully dried before priming/painting/sealing. But to be honest I always felt sealers like BLO never actually dried out. I had some plugs that I dipped and let sit for a couple months and they looked and felt completely dry. I was experimenting and decided to throw the plugs in an oven and I had wet BLO start seeping out from all the pores in the wood. I moved on to seal with epoxy and the issue of yellowing went away. Ed White
Speaking of E-tex,I read it has a shelf life. While not using it should i bring it in from the cold shop or leave it? Build more plugs, use it up faster. After I started epoxy sealing, I kind of found myself buying new etex every year, looking for that Michaels 40% off coupon, and the new stuff was for clearcoating, and any older stuff got used up for sealing "Can You Hear Me, Doctor?" surfflyfish4stripers
One time i thought it was the etex but it was the spar. haven't used spar ever since. etex to seal and coating since. PogyPete
I have used Etex since I started building 4 years ago and I did have a batch yellow on some white Dannys I made. But I have since made some all white pencils last year and didn't have a problem I also use BLO for all my plugs. It's got to be the shelf life thing. victorjg
Sorry about my mis knowledge, what's mean BLO? Victor
swirlchaser
BLO= boiled linseed oil. I seal my bodies with diluted Etex then prime, paint then Etex again no yellowing problems.
victorjg
The boiled linseed oil can be found at home depot? For example? Thanks Victor Garcia
Stumblefish
I know a lot of people use BLO but the fact that it has OIL in the name is why I have never used it. I seal with etex thinned with alcohol. etex will not yellow unless you start with the old yellow etex hardener and it will come out the yellow color you started with but will not continue to yellow after that. I have 4 year old+ white plugs with no yellowing at all. if you want an epox that will yellow with time may I suggest Flex-coat I made my first rod with this stuff and then made a few poppers with the left over and the poppers and my rod was yellowing after a year. I can't believe rod makers use this crap for so long This is why most commercial rods are wrapped with black thread lol
