Just found everything thawed out on my upright frost free freezer, sides are nice and warm, no condenser or fan, compressor is nice and hot, discharge line is smoking hot, suction line is cool not cold, evap  fans blowing , not frozen up, door wasn't cracked open,  put thermometer in it , currently 35°,

I'm thinking defrost timer hung up or compressor start relay is messing up.

What say you?

The village, which had stood for maybe 1,000 years, didn't know we were coming that day. If they had, they would have run. boB was at the eye of our rage. And through him, our Captain Ahab. He would set things right again. That day, we loved him.

If sides are warm compressor is running, that would rule out start relay. Gonna have to open it up and get a look at evap to see if iced up. If it is then manually put in defrost and check heaters.

Did you push it in with a flathead to see if it kicks on? If so and you have voltage going to the coil but it’s not latching swap the relay

It's at 30° now,

Something intermittent is messing up, it wouldn't have thawed out at 30° degrees,  LIKE I SAID IN THE OP, EVERYTHING SEAMS OK , FOR SOME REASON IT GOT REALLY WARM, NOW IT APPEARS TO BE WORKING.

If only you knew a refrigeration/air conditioning mechanic they could either come over and have a look or walk you through the troubleshooting.

I work on way bigger stuff!

I avoid residential stuff like the plague,  it's the same, just different.

Maybe someone unplugged it to plug in something else.

Then plugged it back in hours later after watching NBA highlights?
