Fuel mileage of towing vehicle

I just towed from key port to Manasquan. On the parkway mostly averaging 65mph. 30 miles. My boat/tailer combo is 6200 pounds.

V8 Durango   I got 9mpg.  Good, average or bad?

I love when we make way past the breakwater at first light and head out, there's nothing better, the whole rest of the world just melts away for me.

diesel would be about 20 mi/gal

What diesel are you driving?  My dad's F-350 gets 15 on the highway empty

9 isn't great but it's not horrible in a V8 gasser while towing. I drive an F-550 at work with the v10 and get about 6 mpg usually.

Yea, I looked at the net after posting this, looks about right. Maybe not the best for towing but it feels good with the boat on the back and it’s a great vehicle as a daily driver.

F350 or 550 are a different application but thanks for the comparison. Planning on using the Durango to tow the boat anywhere between the Cape to the Keys.

Thats about right.  A lot depends on gearing, etc.

Think with my last Yukon and last 'long haul' from Manto to Newark when I hung the HPDIs in my fathers shop, I got 10 or thereabouts, if I remember correctly.  My rig is a bit heavier...but the yukon drops 4 cylinders going downhill!

My 7.3 powerstroke 300 mile to tank. 40 ga tank. Stock .

My brother cummin twin turbo  beast build . 20mpg regardless.

You can tune a diesel and add ungodly amount of  power to gain great  towing mpg. I'm about to overhaul my 7.3l

My Cummins 5.9 gets 23 around town and 30 on the hwy ar 55 mph. Towing my 5th wheel i averaged 17 on long trips like northern Ontario and Florida.

I'll ignore your cheap aroma,

and your little-bo-peep diploma,

I'll just put you in a coma,

with some dirty love-
