When does your season end vs. start?

I spend most of my time fishing the central south shore yet travel in either direction and will fish both shores at different points in the season. As of maybe a week ago I had hopes of bringing this season into December with the quality/quantity of fish I was still getting into but I think my efforts will come to a stop right after thanksgiving but who knows. I like pushing it a bit father than I probably should cause these winters never seem to end for me but once I start not being able to feel my hands I gotta finally throw in the towel. Usually start it back up middle of March on Long Island.

My season is largely dependent upon my marina and my insurance company.  The marina can typically get the boat in around mid-April,when I'll probably make a wreck trip or two out of Fire Island Inlet before the weakfish show around May 1.

My insurance requires me to be out of the water by December 1--and I usually start hunging around November 1, although I'll make triups upstate and do some bowhunting locally before that--so I tend to wnd down sometime around mid-November, again usually fishing on a few wrecks.

I'll take a few trips outside of that time, ,maybe fishing with a friend up in Connecticut for bass and blackfish in November, or jiumping on a party b oat for ling and maybe cod, but once hunting season starts, that tends to keep my attention until ducks close at the end of January.

My season for bass goes throughout the winter. If the weather cooperates (above 28*) I will give it a shot.

woke up at 4:45am and was fully dressed by 5:00 to head west to where "i know" i was going to get into fish this morning at first light. i know they were going to be there. Sat fully dressed on edge of bed for a minute. Thought about my shoulder aching... and my right hand freezing because of the chronic nerve impingement in my neck. Sat on the bed another minute. paused. this was the first really cold morning. took my sh*t off. tucked myself back in until 7:30 then went to work.

Disappointed in myself...  i'm getting old and soft. Work was productive though.

I kayak and was out Thursday. All it would take to get me out next month is a day in the 50s with low wind. Happens, and you never know what you'll find out there. I've headed out for tog and run into busting bass. Never fished in January, but I've always wanted to go after herring for the smoker.

Hear you! Started work today at 5 am. It was cold. Tomorrow will be 29* for work start up. Don’t ask how but I did 7 hours outside today and went fishing after.

At 28* ice will clog up your guides. A dip in the water or spray with some PAM helps.

If the high temp will be above 32 in January or February I will try if conditions are right.

Have caught many stripers of all sizes in those two months.

Definitely going to get hard to step away from the heated seats and open the door to suit up from now on. This wave of cold feels like winter not just a colder fall night.

wondering what yesterdays surf that will linger through wednesday will do to the action that was going on east of 112 a week ago, if those fish will completely skip the CSS.        might have to revert to the driving parking lot to parking lot, 4x4 and binoculars  burning $60 of gas to find birds

Birds are gone for now. Christmas rig is next "diamond jig with 4 5 teasers"

Will usually stop for (striped) bass after the first week of December or so. I’ll fish pond/lakes on the warmer days throughout the winter, but I’m certainly not going to freeze my ass off for a pickerel or small LMB. Early spring I’ll hit the freshwater a bit more often, then usually around late April I’m fishing the surf and likely not touching freshwater until the next winter. I mostly stopped the early spring striper fishing since the spots I used to have success at were completely blown up, and it’s not worth being should to shoulder with others for what is usually at best schoolie sized bass.

can catch schoolies now through december with super small profile teasers and eels.     just not as rewarding standing out there like we are ice fishing without the tent and beers.

Most definitely not too rewarding throwing Christmas tree rigs for small bass but man does it feel like we’re going to have another long winter. I do enjoy starting up somewhat early just to dust everything off. I do not travel past LI borders in terms of western spring spots but I tend to find that most don’t realize how early some fish do show up and fish eventually move on when the shoulder to shoulder action starts up in those typical spots.
