Jayfish
While fishing very early spring during the night I ended up spooking a giant goose who had no other way out but to charge me to take flight . At the time I thought I was going to get stampeded by a deer . I screamed like a school girl. After it took flight I heard a yell from the marina asking if I was ok . I was completely embarrassed to say yes . ReeferRob
Lateral Line
Went offshore, got a 16 Oz jig through my hand, btwn my fingers and down. Off to Exeter hospital upon return. 6 pm evening, nobody around and I'm in the wait area. Over the load speaker: " we've got a patient with a foreign object in his hand". They needed help for that hook. I tried to hide. The staff made me laugh. ReeferRob, hobobob and Heavy Hooksetter 2

Nite_Bite_00
many years ago, fishing MTK in the Fall under the Light. good bite going from sunrise to 9am. waiting for the tide to turn, we all see a small boat go down a few hundred yards from the point. less than a minute later and instant smell of fuel covered the point and we see 2 surfers paddling out to get the solo boater. they got the guy and paddled back to Turtle Cove and the surf was a fuel spill. EVERYBODY leaves the point. we go back the next morning and we still smell the fuel once we drove through the park. we still decide let's check it out. we get to rocks, and see the stern of the boat washed in the rocks. the boat broke in half. The name of the boat was "No Problem". we laughed a little and fished the north side and Gin for the rest of the trip. bbfish
Years ago early in the AM I was casting into a local river. I had been up fishing late/early into the am for several days in a row so was semi delirious. On one cast I waited to hear the splash of my plastic swimmer that never came. I noticed my line wasn't pointing down either, but rather pointing up, I started reeling in and there was no tension but I could see my plug in the air. I figured I was snagged on some sort of line that was keeping my plug up. It wasn't, the plug didn't "release" and fall until it was about 10 feet in front of me. There was no line that it was hung on and I couldn't explain in my mind what had just happened. It was so odd that I thought maybe I just made that up. Was pretty shaken by it so decided to call it a night. Years later I stumbled upon a post about something similar, and a few others chimed in with the same experience. Turns out its from static electricity, and generally means a lightning strike is imminent. Another time very close by to the original story I was under a bridge by myself in the middle of the night just watching the shadowlines. Line wasn't in the water, plug was secured to the reel as I was just holding my rod with it pointing ahead. All the sudden I felt like someone bumped the butt of my rod causing the tip to swing to my right. I turn around thinking I'll see some familiar fishing face that was messing with me. No one there so I say that was odd and keep watching. It happened 2 more times and I got the hell out of dodge. Never could explain that one. rocco
just about a year ago now late november, gearing up to go out fishing for the night on lbi. my buddy's house is on the bay right across from the marina. about 9 or 10 at night and we're in the driveway putting on waders and loading up. thought i heard someone yell "help!" so did the other 3 guys i was with sounded like it was way off out in the bay somewher. we all stopped making noise and then heard it again, this time it sounded a lot closer like across the street in the marina. we sprint over that way call out "is anybody out there?" didn't here anything for a bit and then a big splash that sounded like someone kicking in the water. went out on the dock behind the tackle shop and we found a kid about 14 or 15 years old in the water clinging to the dock and piss drunk. his phone was up on the dock and there was a bike nearby. he still had his backpack on. my buddy grabbed him and i helped hoist him up out of the water. the air was 37 and the water low 50s, not sure how much longer he could have held on. he couldn't really explain how he got in the water, all he would say was "i had a little bit to drink..." found his friends nearby who were in various degrees of better shape than he was and made sure that got him inside to warm up. they had no idea he was in the water at all. best we can figure was he rode his back their and went down on the dock to take a whizz and fell in. we got skunked that night. besides the kid. bbfish
One night fishing alone in one of Raritan Bayshore's sketchier towns. Was in an area that was well lit up against a steep sand embankment about 10 feet high and I start to hear something/someone rustling in the dunes/bushes above me. I start saying is anyone up there? The rustling stops for a few seconds then starts again. At this point my heart rate is going up, then I see a large plastic shopping bag roll out on to the embankment with something clearly alive inside of it. It tumbles all the way down the sand and hits me in the leg before plopping down on the sand. Not knowing what to expect I stand there for a sec and just watch as a large skunk finally frees itself from the bag. All I can think to myself is "FCK", I stood there motionless waiting for it to see me and give me a fresh dose. It didn't even notice me, just started trotting away down the beach. ReeferRob
In 1995, the M and I ran off to The Keys and got married, long story there. Anyway, we're fishing on Stock Island and a Raccoon pops out from the brush. He's between me and the tackle box and my pistol is in the tackle box. I had my stiff Penn rod and walloped him. He sprung up like Tigger and hauled ass back into the bushes. Later i asked a game warden if they had problem with raccoons here. He said no they're mainly begging for food. I felt bad for popping him one, but up here that's a sure trip to getting rabies shots. Heavy Hooksetter 1 "The sea, the great unifier, is man's only hope. Sloatsburg Pete
Doesn't qualify as crazy - just a little startling. I was alone on a beach sitting in a chair passively chunking. You know how quiet and peaceful the beach can be at 2-3am on a warm summer night, not a person in sight and the soothing sound of the waves. All of a sudden, I'm knocked out of a Silver Bullet trance by an incredibly loud, dull "thud" that hit the sand to the left of me. I got up, and very slowly walked toward where I heard the sound......about 25' away lying in the sand motionless, was a big, fat, dead seagull. GoneCoastal
I was fishing one of my favorite river spots some falls ago on a brisk night. After the sun went down the bite picked up and I slid a nice 10lb fish up on the bank for dinner the next night. I secured him with my stringer clipped to my bag and went back to fishing to hopefully catch a few more before calling it a night. After a while the bite stopped and I decided it was time to go. When I went to collect my bag and the next nights dinner everything was gone. For a few minutes I thought someone had snagged my bag and fish. It was a dark night and there was about 10 guys left. A fellow angler came over to where I was looking for my bag. I told him my about my dismay and he got a big light out of his bag. We shined it all around the rock my bag was on and I caught a glimpse of my bag. I reached into a hole in the rocks with a little caution and pulled it out slowly. I thought some was messing with me. I then noticed my stinger was still attached. I gave it a tug and the rock pile came to life and when my fish slid out a 20 lb Raccoon shot out and ran between the guy holding the lights legs. He screamed and jumped about 5 feet in the air. The raccoon disappeared into the night. After a underwear check on his part we both laughed our butts off. It’s must have just happed because the fish was clean of marks. It’s one I’ll never forget. squidder 329
Two beach stories I had forgotten, wife and I walking the beach on the Outer Banks. New moon and pitch black walked head on into a guy walking the other way. Cape may New moon night as I walked I tripped, seems I stumbled on couple doing the dirty deed. Worst part I couldn't see her. Heavy Hooksetter and EricDice 1
