Mack26
What are you guys using for painting plugs with rattle cans. Loaded some Redfins and gonna try and paint a bunch and try and use some scaling techniques. Any suggestions is appreciated.
Sandbar1
Cut laundry bag or mesh for scaling. Cardboard held an inch or two from the plug to create a defined gradient, lateral line, etc. You can get fancy with cut stencils but I wouldn't bother. Spray, fish, use and abuse and hit it with another coat when the time comes. Mike Fixter
Rustoleum & Krylon are my 2 top choices. Heavy Hooksetter, Lateral Line, Mike Mendez and 2 others 3
Gatr522
Latex glove with a hemostat allows for an airbush effect. Experiment with different distances & speeds passing over the plug. I used a Q-tip with Vaseline for the eyes. Wipes of easy after the plug dries. Mack26, sytheteacher, Heavy Hooksetter and 1 other 2

Heavy Hooksetter
Rust-Oleum 2X coverage with built in primer works great for me. HH Mack26 1 An armed man is a citizen,,,an unarmed man is a subject,,,,,,,,
TopStriperAngler
I use that rusto stuff HH posted. They have a "silver metallic" and a "metallic champagne bronze" that I also use mostly for dusting or misting in order get a bit of a pearly effect. You have to make one or no more than two very fast passes to get the pearling otherwise it starts going silver or bronze gold. Their fluoro yellow and fluoro orange can be good for accents or for getting different shades as the undercoat will blend with them. You can buy mesh for scaling at the Joanne's. I secure with small binder clips--seem better than the big ones which can swing around on you. Hold plug with vice grips. I also make very rough stencils out of cardboard. Like if you want a lateral line or a curve to the top you can cut that. But it's not easy to achieve and on redfin assume u wouldn't need it. Sometimes its good for trying to keep things tidy or if you want to try to get fnacy. Mack26

Thanks guys, i appreciate all the info! Also are you guys sanding the plug at all? Some are new and some will be old/used. Gatr522
Sanding- rarely with paper. I would use a scuff pad and wipe with isopropyl or denatured alcohol. Mack26

Looks exact like the mesh they have at joannes. The mesh at joanne's isn't great for this I think I had better luck with garlic or onion bag stuff whihc is made out of plastic not cotton like some of this joanne's stuff. They do have some plastic-type mesh but a bit too small. hobobob

z-man
The red plastic mesh that comes on the top of a box of clementines works perfect for scales. Wrap it around the lure and secure with binder clips or clothes pins. gotrings and Mack26
