once or twice a year i go out with one or two friends, with a guide, in southern maine for stripers.  its the usual routine, head out, sabiki some mackerel and then go baitfishing off rocky shores.  not my favorite thing to do as i prefer to keep casting and working lures.  question is...what would be some good plastics in the 1-2oz range to keep me busy?

9" sluggo's are going to be a good bet, Paddletails such as the Gags, NLBN, etc. Pair them with an appropriately weighted jighead or swimbait hook as the conditions (depth, sweep) dictate.

z-man makes some good paddle-tails. And they're non-toxic so they don't smell/taste like a plastic factory. (not that stripers probably care but who knows).

Not too expensive depending on the website. I found some on-sale recently.

Albie Snax and Super Snax...Super Snax on a teaser rig was my highest percentage bait for "bigger than slot" stripers this season. Had one of my best days in fifty years: found a pod of big fish trapped in a deep, backwater trough at low tide. After landing seven 40+ inchers in seven casts, I just sat their watching them feast on a mat of jumping sand eels covering the surface. I stopped because catching more would be diminshing returns: try eating a gallon of your favorite ice cream: the last bite is forced down, no enjoyment, just knee jerk fishing and catching. Did not want to diminish the moment by being a glutton.

For years all I carried were sluggos and a Creek Chub popper. Weird season: Sluggos struck out for me this year but PINK Super Snax saved my season. Thinking the pink color resembled a squid. Best hooks I found for the Super Snax were 9.0 and up weighted Titan Riders.
