None, because you should be netting fish. Most fish you catch are going to be too small or too big. Stripers are not designed to lifted by the jaw and they WILL be injured. So you'll be lifting fish and killing many for every striper you can keep.

That true but when a 9 ft wave comes over and sticks you in the rocks, you can't really get down to get it. lifting is sometimes the only opinion.

what does "yeet" mean

It’s onomatopoeia. The sound is the word the word is the sound.

It’s usually about something getting tossed or thrown but I guess this yeet is getting pulled up on the jetty.

Would you really say that lifting reg schoolies (say 26” and under fish) is really killing them?

I’ve caught many of that size from rocks, low bridges, pilings and docks. Elevated marinas.

There is no sign of a health hazard of any kind. They’re slapping around, jaw intact, swim away perfectly when released at the lowest place available.

If I’m killing fish that way, if you are very or mostly certain, I need to take a look at the man in the mirror. ;-)

While you can lift fish with your rod there really is no “best blank” for lifting fish on a jetty other than an ugly stick.

You really should find a place either way to comfortably land a fish on the rocks rather lift them in. You will loose fish and plugs otherwise.

For the record, I’ll take a look at the man in the mirror. And I’ll make that change. (Need to make or buy a bridge net for my own use in the offseason.)

I do want to point out though, that I don’t often see long pole nets or rope nets (bridge nets) at the places I hit up. (At low or even half tide - many of these places are several feet or more up from the water to the rocks etc.)

I also see lots of jack holes keeping & killing fish in a variety of other ways.

Swinging a 5 pounder doesn’t seem like a problem to me. But like I said, I’m not “tryna” be that guy.

if you keep fish you can swing them,i swing 7 lb fish on 10' high rock with st.croixs 7' ML rod.you have to know how to swing them,20 # braid and 17# mono, 90% people would brake the rod or line loose the lure with fish.

you beter know what you doing, when you lifting the fish and lure get lose from fish, you may get hooks in face or hook in eye.

best solution

20' down use landing net,you have to lift heavy fish ,handle strait up or you brake the net.

20' more use a dip net, what they use in florida from piers.
