rrocco
Very nice plugs. Like your spinner setup too. Really like the use of the telescoping antenna for adjustability.

TopStriperAngler
BigREd great paint jobs. When does the line tie and hook hangers get put into these in the process? Do you think that it would be feasible to add weight to the plugs after printing via drilling out the plastic? Curious if you can comment on durability of the plastic vis a vis hook rash and water infiltration or so forth. Bigred78
Glad you guys all like it! I had no idea the lure turner would be so popular. I got the idea to use the telescoping back scratchers from engineered angler on YouTube. I modified it to use 3d printed parts and alligator clips instead of getting spring wire. I also 3d printed a moter stand and the wheel that holds them. If you guys are using uv resin I would ignore the moter stand and just screw the moter directly into a wood box but the stand would be great for epoxy. If anyone wanted to make it I got the files here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6088370 bassmaster

So it would be feasible to drill holes in the bait and add weight however it’s not really feasible to print it in one piece. I print the lure in 2 separate halves. I place the hook hangers in and use ball berrings for weights. Durability and hook rash still need more testing. I’ve only really been doing this for about 2 years and a lot of that time went into soft plastic molds. There is very little information out there on this topic so I’ve had to figure out most of it myself. The lipless and the smaller plug are the first fish able versions. The jointed and large 1 piece plug should be the final version. I tweaked the action to get it exactly how I wanted and I also had to fix the lip durability. Both those plugs weigh like 3 1/2oz. I made it so I can drop it directly on the lip from 6’ and not break. The body I can whip it into a concrete wall as hard as I can and it survives. The plastic itself is water proof and in the thinnest spot is 1/10 of an inch thick. I really don’t think any gator blues will be able to chomp through that but I’ll let you know next may. The problem is the seam. There is an air chamber built into the top portion of the bait that if penetrated will fill up with water. Just due to the nature of printing the baits are ever so slightly not straight. This was not a problem when I was using epoxy to assemble the two halves but that was messy and time consuming. I’ve recently switched to solvent welding as it’s much quicker, cleaner, and creates a bond as strong as if it were printed in one piece. With this I only have a 50% success rate of having a water tight bait. I’ve been bandaging this by sealing it with clear coat but I am still trying to find a real solution. Hook rash will not damage the top seem but it may be a problem for the bottom. I’ve been using spring clamps to hold the bait together while the solvent sets up but I’m thinking that might not be strong enough. Next batch of baits I want to try using a vise until it sets up which only takes seconds. If that doesn’t get it to seal I don’t think anything will. TACKLE JUNKIE
Personally I think that pearl white color is perfect without any paint. I would have left at least a few unpainted and fished them just as they are. Kones1
