Busanga
What is difference between the USD10.00 + metal jigs sold by big name companies as opposed to USD1.00 metal jigs on that chap who stole from the 40 thieves site. After all is just a piece of more or less flatish molded metal with a wire loop running through it. ?

That is what I am asking about... is about 50c worth of lead and then time painting it. (In terms of direct manufacturing inputs) in China these costs are waaay cheaper than the West so actually one can get a metal jig same as big name for fraction of price... they are not made of exotic materials or welded or any some such... so copies will be as good as original more or less...or ? RichG
I bought a pack of cheap Kastmaster clones a while ago. The paint started flaking off after a couple of uses. Cheap hooks too. Usable with a hook upgrade, but not the same quality. You’ll have to decide if that matters to you or not.

Store bought tackle from name brand manufacturers go thru several hands before they get to you. They all have to make a profit. That all gets added on to the price. One more thing. If you get a defective item you have the recourse of taking it back to where you bought it for a refund or replacement. Try doing that with Alibaba. I sincerely hope you never lose the fish of a lifetime because you got cheap with your tackle. -

Just struck me as odd the big difference in price for something which is relatively simple to make with very basic materials.

Because the Chinese don’t care about polluting the environment. Because the Chinese will gladly screw us on quality as long as someone is willing to pay for their inferior products. Cascade
Some truths on both sides. China products are usually deal able at first bur QC goes down the drain in a hurry. Some of the "top end" jigs can also go bad but usually manufacturer will stand behind their product. I have some "tins" that I made 50 or more years ago that the chrome is still good on. I doubt if todays chrome/nickel plate would hold up like that.
Surf bomber
I have Hopkins that are at least 10 years old … I did change rings, hooks and left them out in the rain to rinse off bu bu bu buttt they work and look just fine … kastmaster didn’t last as long but much longer than the el cheapos… the el cheapos bent if you hit the jetty when your casting… point Jude did have minor rust on them in the little crevices … Ava s will pit eventually … round chrome fluke balls will flake due to being dragged along the bottom … sometimes you do need cheapos if your in snag heaven …

Just about indestructible. Some newer ones are chrome over lead and can peel. Kastmasters used to be chrome over brass, I have no idea what they are made from now but finish doesn't hold up as well.
