BentHookzMA
Just got the new Stardic FM and am having some hesitation on this new (to me) anti twist fin. I only fish braid and typically use 40 pounds. One can only wonder if this will eat away at the braid and potentially cause line to break. I do have confidence in Shimano and do question my thinking as it would be crazy for a reel company to introduce that risk to its reel’s performance. has anyone been able to take it off, and is it easy to? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Edited September 23 by BentHookzMA
FalmouthFisher
Not really sure how it works, but sounds like the line would need to be slack in order for it to come into play. So no real load on the line when touching it, right? Sounds fairly harmless.

But idk how they think this is “new” technology. Was in the Stella FK. I hope someone can provide some input. EricL
why is it going to eat away braid? i dont get it. its just there to help keep/hold the slack off the spool itself. that short 1 inch distance from the spool to the roller. why remove it? or cut it up? its a replaceable part. you can just pull it out if it bugs you. lol weird bunch. on top of that, OP, the FM is meant for lines under 20lb, not sure how youre gonna fish with 40. i use 2/3 rule for trading. join date, posts, or vouch. whoever has less goes first. I fish the FL with 40 pound braid no problem. It’s not that much of a difference. I use the stradics on the canal. Love how smooth these reels are. I was just curious to see other folks’ opinion on it. Appreciate your take. You really think it’s as simple as pulling it out with pliers?
EricL
theres probably a peg or a screw holding it down just open the side cover, should be visible. the japanese will never design something that you can just pull out with pliers and damage things. problem with even the biggest c5000 size. itll probably take like 150m or so tops. not much line. compared to 300m of 15lb i use 2/3 rule for trading. join date, posts, or vouch. whoever has less goes first. I know what you mean, but I have yet to be spooled. Appreciate your insight
FISH BUCKET
A ‘fix’ for a non-problem…… just another gizmo
Jig It
This gimmicky thing comes from Stella with new infinity loop old forgotten feature. I think because Shimano was concerned with wind knots and braid biting on itself under load/drag it introduced this gimmicky feature to help control reeling of slack line. If you watch new Stella review videos, fin there is removable and I saw another size fin that would allow braid and flouro knot go through if that's an issue. Not sure if stradic has same package and ability to remove it. Read your instructions. Since new stradic didn't get infinity loop I'm not sure why Shimano introduced the gimmicky fin, maybe as advertisment but maybe it does help with holding some slack line. Wanted to give an update, I fished this heavily for the past week and didn’t notice anything, I caught a bunch of fish on it no problem. It’s a really smooth reel. I did use 40 pound braid with no problems.
EricL
like i said, theres no issues. the fin even bends a bit to allow knots to pass through it.
