My buddy tells me that the shore action has been ok.   Some albies, some bones, and some smaller blues, depending on where you're fishing.  Chappy was rumored to be slow yesterday.   I'm heading over on monday for the rest of the Derby.

Chappy north of the East Beach jetties is not accessible by OSVs. You can't get to Cape Poge Light, the elbow, or the Gut. The inside trails along the bay are also closed. Only the North Neck side of the Gut is accessible.

Mike...why are they closed?

Show someone how to catch striped bass and they'll be ready to fish anywhere.
Show someone where to go striped bass fishing and you'll have a desperate report chaser with loose lips.

Tim I believe the “Trustees” have decided that ALL birds must be protected during all seasons, even non endangered species like oystercatchers, chickadees, ducks, robins etc. they just don’t want anyone out there anymore. I think they liked being able to ban everyone from going to the beach during covid. Won’t be long until they ban walking out there too.

What a shame...some of my favorite fishing memories were out "there" - @DitchJigger  took me out there the first time or two...what a wonderful area...and such a shame that it's closed to responsible traffic :dismay:

I heard it was for other reasons which are even shittier.  Sounds like private key beaches are preventing access.  Either way- private beaches and/or birds should not prevent access.

From my understanding of the colonial law, it is unlawful to stop people from fishing, fowling or collecting floating fauna in the intertidal zone. Are beaches stopping people from crossing their private areas? Also, this is from the state site. "(The Massachusetts Attorney General takes the position that the right of fowling also includes other ways that birds can be "used," such as birdwatching, but also notes that this issue has not yet been addressed by the courts.)" Bring your binoculars!

I haven't beach fished on MV in a while but it was great when you could get on at South Beach and drive all the way to the Gut.

You can't do that anymore because the point at Wasque has eroded so much that OSVs can't get through there. It's been like that since 2020 or so. The last time I saw OSVs at Wasque was in 2019.

I was out there in July of this year. At high tide, the water is right up to the big eroded sand cliff at the corner. I think in '20 there was a big winter storm or 2 where there were brutal SE winds that hammered that point. A favorite Cape beach of mine on the south side was also washed away that winter. They had to dredge up a shyte ton of sand to rebuild that Cape beach.

Yeah, I've been following that on the FB MV Beachgoers page.  On the beach we usually wind up fishing from Lelands to Wasque, or the Gut on the hard side.  Can't wait.
