sinfish
Hey folks, I have been tying up some articulated poppers using the Blane Chocklett big game shank. Can anyone recommend a single hook for a non articulated Large Double Barrel Popper? I'm using a TMC 511S for smaller poppers but cant seem to find the right hook for the larger ones. dennisl
I like Ahrex SA280 up to 2/0, and SA270 beyond that. The SA280 is lighter, but they don't make it larger than 2/0. sinfish
MooreLyonQuick
Gamakatsu SP11-3L3H Perfect Bend - it's a pretty light wire hook in the smaller sizes, but in the larger size - 1/0 and up, it's heavy enough and has a nice bend. sinfish

I didn't realize they made a "3L" version. I regularly use the sp11-3h. thanks

A foam cylinder w/ a 45 deg cut for the face makes more noise/disturbance than any cupped face, make sure you set the hook on the bottom 1/4 of the foam, centering a hook in a popper face makes it more likely to chug instead of pop and splash hook choice is dependent on the tail, longer soft materials are less likely to wrap on a round bend hook, any random spinnerbait hook is good, although I prefer a "stinger" style hook like a Gami B10 for most as I feel they hold better, size the foam diameter to the bend/gap of the hook, should be = in size for optimal performance,go easy on the tail as too much material will negatively impact action and pop a #1 popper,w/ 1/2" foam,6-8" 5/0-7/0 3/4" face
