Eric Roach
I was hoping for some basic information about fishing the Deefield during high water — is it feasible to fish in Charlemont/Florida if the cfs from Fife is up (it’s at 900 at the moment)? Thanks in advance. Eric
Eric W
Short answer is yes, but be cautious. Just below fife dam is easy to fish from the bank at high flows. Other places are fine too, just be careful, some steep drop off and fast water at high water so be careful and studs are suggested.
Camhabib
Echoing the above, the Deerfield definitely demands some respect. Had a very harrowing experience there earlier this year that could have very easily gone from bad to deadly (long story short, hired a guide who got us stuck out on the wrong side of the river during a release). Some great pockets to fish streamers with even with faster flow rates, and a lot of fishable waters accessible by foot from the bank. Few guides do floats which seem quite fun but haven’t tried one myself yet.
