I use 31 gallon storage totes modified to store water. The height of these would probably work for you. There are detailed instructions online to make these out of two totes (search 'Earthtainer').

Neighbor has these ones that are metal frame with cedar sides, about 4ft long 2ft wide and waist high on legs. He grows all kinds of stuff in them including acorn and butternut squash. They look really nice and well built but probably not cheap.

thanks i was thinking that fish ttotes none  stacked on   top of each other would work as they are only 10 bucks each and would hold a good amount of dirt and if you drill enough holes it would be well drained

then the raised bed i was looking at are 8' x4' by 2feet deep. which you could sit on top of straw bales for height..or do both as i dont buy tools or cars or boats anymore just bird seed an dirt.

I got these aluminum/stainless raised beds off Amazon and love them so far. They were easy to put together (no drilling needed, took about 30 min each), a great size (the elevation kept our resident groundhog away from them and made pruning/harvesting/weeding easy, and they easily fit three or four full-sized zucchini plants since the leaves can spill over the edges) and seems like they’ll be durable (only one season so far but would expect galvanized stainless steel and aluminum to last a while). Had excellent zucchini, cucumber and pepper harvests. They’re not cheap (~$100 each) but seem to fit what you’re looking for.

Capesams,

Sorry to hear of your health problem.   I can attest to totes. I get most of my soil from the Bourne dump. They make it there, and it's for residents only.

Couple years ago I picked up a few extra totes for my flowers, but never used it since I already had enough. My wife planted eggplant in one, squash in another, and basil in the third. We got beautiful results from all.  Watering and feeding is important.

As for pots, I grow all my tomatoes in 10 gallon felt pots. Always had great results.  Much better than 5 gallon buckets.

i will look into them as i know most plants like to grow roots deep.

yes fish totes   can be stacked  on top of each other for height but i was thinking of cutting out the bottom of the top one so the dirt was plenty deep for root s and the bottom tote has drain holes so  .

Capesams,

If you do look at 10 gallon soft pots, be advised they make two sizes. Regular and tall.  Imo the tall are preferable because they promote deep root systems with tomatoes.

speaking of pots somehow i had a sunflower shack up with my cukes in a 3 gal pot and they lived very happy together till they both passed...the chippers loved the sunflower head so i am putting in more sunflower this spring now i know they grow great in a good size pot.

Steve

I have both raised beds and bags. They both work well.
Bags only last a few years unless you get the newer plastic type that cost more but worth the money.
cattle panels are a bonus and work super for cukes / and any melons etc.

I still have problems with animals getting in both. Lol   Chipmunks / squirrels/ woodchucks

10 gal bags may be best for you.  If you tumble a lot less damage !!
