Drive down there a while ago to see it was closed. None of the beach was built up like that when I saw it. Very sad. I thought weeks marine was just using it as a staging point to build the sea wall off of station island. Clearly that isn’t the case.

We lost a lot of homes after Sandy...

Yes, Union beach was hit harder than most. I been fishing there countless years and have made so many friends there, when sandy hit I was a Monmouth County Salvation Army Disaster Volunteer Union Beach we had a Canteen set up Feeding all in need for many weeks and opened a Restore Store for Food Clothing & Monetary aid and countless other items. We stayed open some 2 years after Sandy and still have presence in the area, I was not a Church member just a Volunteer. Known to all as Bill, I have so many people I still visit as many moved on losing all, and many are still in need & waiting. were you &are you a resident of Union Beach now.

Army corps of Engineers building a dune 250 feet out from the walkway and from creek to creek . 250 feet out will be a dune 18 feet high from jetty to jetty. I have heard many different plans over the years but at least they have started something!

Have any homeowners complained that an 18' high dune will block their view of the bay yet?

Hi, Bill

Ray here yes I’m from UB. I was one of the lucky ones that didn’t have any damage. When the water started coming up my block I ran inside told my wife and daughter to get upstairs!! I put my waders on and ran back outside to help . The water stoped 50 yards from my house . . I couldn’t believe it .. very lucky and blessed.

That put Dock street on the map . They put all the destroyed houses in a pile there . That caused them to make the lot 10x the size . I don’t fish UB too crowded.

Have to see the finished product I guess.. with a dune that high that far out you won’t see the water till the Verrazano bridge !

It would be great if they keep fisherman in mind with the design of this project. Unlikely, but im hopeful.

I mean UB already banned fishing all along their beaches anyway. As long as there is room for kayak launching at both ends at least status quo will be maintained.

I believe the ban was only the swimming beaches and the eastern sea wall where fisherman Trashed the area, and ignored walkers and bikers. The west end and creak fishing and launching OK but when the west parking lot gets out of hand, they close it mostly in the spring. The walk to the hidden spot not burning is open parking can be an issue

Conaskonk Point and the surrounding marsh is owned by NJ and is preserved open space. (UB own the parking lot area though) UB can try and scare people out of the area but they have no authority to keep people out since it is public property, NJDEP would have to decree people are not allowed there. The western groin they are building out is pretty much where the old sign was no fishing past this point.

I'm surprised you're all surprised - it's detailed in this year's beach replenishment plan, and the UB project has been all over local news for months. Raritan Bay has unfortunately been replenished for many decades at this point. Much of the state will be this fall.

Side note, I remember a few months ago having a convo with someone on here that 'grew up' on the bay and swore that BR had never occurred on the bay... even after seeing the documentation! Anyway, it was over impending replenishment projects including this one.

It's a disaster - I wish would focus on that like they do the turbines....

I don't believe they are trying to scare anyone. They are trying to stop U.B. from flooding.
