riverside_eng
I need to find a conventional reel to match up with a 7' Uglystik Tiger casting rod. USTB1050C702 SHA-0370 Casting 7' 2 pc Medium 10-50lb 1/2-6oz Yes 9 Above is the spect of the rod. I am trying to figure what would be a reasonably affordable reel to match up with it. The tagline description is "Great for live bait, bottom fishing, and light trolling, the Ugly Stik Tiger series is the perfect "all around" boat rod." So basically I am trying to find a reel that would fit at least most of those uses, mainly bait and bottom fishing. For a general budget I would say around $100 but if I need to go up a bit I could. ermghoti
Sounds like a job for Piscifun. The Chaos 4000 would tick all your boxes, although I like low-profiles better for bottom fishing for ergonomics. The Alijoz 300 would also fit the bill, but lacking a clicker, it would shine at bottom fishing and casting, with the obvious handicap being bait and wait scenarios. The heftier Alijoz 400 has a clicker, but is over your budget and out of stock anyway. I have both a Chaos 40 (older version) and an Alijoz 300, and have spent quite a bit of time on the Alijoz. It hasn't skipped a beat bottom fishing for scup/black sea bass/fluke or casting big soft plastic at bass. The Chaos is also dirt cheap, and gets rave reviews from a couple other posters. Online ordering only, but either Piscifun or Amazon will get you your reel in a few days. I've never tried the "click for a discount" gimmick on their site, but they do go on sales very frequently if you don't need this immediatelyish. Certainly look to fit within the budget. ermghoti

One obvious disadvantage is they are online only, so unless somebody you know has one, no try-before-you-buy. I received a Torrent as a gift, and was impressed enough to gamble on the Alijoz and Chaos. Since then I've bought a few more. hunter123
Just get a Nice Penn 4000 size reel. They fish good, built like a tank, and easy to service. I have some over 60 years old and still kicking azz. Bit I do like the newer ones. sytheteacher and DinkWrangler 2 Capt, Frank Mundus. The man, the myth, the legand. whistlefish
Good advice here ----I've used that model rod going back many years -- I've always run the suggested 6500 with 20 lb mono -----there is usually plenty up on the auction site lots are basically new. John Broadbent Jr
The c-3’s I have are generally taken and rinsed off with fresh water after every use and brought inside every time after. And once a year side plates and spool sprayed lightly with wd40 and a small drop of oil here and there. Biggest thing I noticed people don’t open the drag after using. I do that on everything I have every time
Surf bomber
Diawa sla20 , or diawa saltist 20 , if you can find it … both have centrifugal brakes so it can be used off the beech if needed…they are not a whimpy reels , non level wind so it will stand up to abuse … and can cast a long way …
