Unlimited Albies yesterday. You missed one or broke off? No big deal. Tie another Silver Epoxy on and have some fun. Nice to go on weekdays. Be careful of yakkers out there boaters and yakkers wave your hand or put flag up in the air. Nice by-catch yesterday of Spanish and Kings. The Spanish were bigger than the kings!

If you think what I posted is a spot burn? You can kiss my irish mexican ass. It's a fishing website with people out there to have fun.  Give the fish with Stripes a chance and chase some Albacore and have some fun.

I don’t want to sound like a Dick, but how are boaters seeing/avoiding buoys, but they can’t spot a kayak with a dude sitting in it.

I’ve run plenty of boats and also fish out of a kayak… the only time a boat has been too close is when the dipshit wasn’t paying attention- a flag won’t help that.

Good question , bouys are marked, bouys don’t move. The boater might be going up on plane, etc. I’ve passed kayakers in low light areas in high travel areas and flags help. Why NOT have a flag is the question ?

Sorry- I wasn’t clear.  I didn’t mean channel markers,  I meant lobster buoys, shellfish grant markers, and other buoys that aren’t on a chart.

Why not have a flag?  Well, it’s a pretty small boat without a whole lot of area for a back cast.  If I have a fish on and need to go around my back with a rod, then that’s one more thing that a pain when I’m sitting down and basically immobile.  Plus, it’s really up to the boater to maintain a safe speed and be able to see what’s in front of them.  If you’re worried about getting up on plane and didn’t look in front of you before you throttled down, then that’s really on you.

Well don’t make this about me… I’m not at all worried. I’m very careful, vigilant  and considerate of kayak guys. But every time I see one in a high traffic area without a flag ….

a flag is a choice of course. If something could avoid a really really bad situation,  why not. That’s all

Sorry- that’s the bummer about online forums/e-mail/text etc.  Tone doesn’t come though.   I didn’t mean to come off the wrong way or make this about you.  Not my intention at all.  I know I used the words you/you’re… my bad.

I know who you are, and I’ve fished/ kayaked around you without any issues.

I’ll continue to fish without a flag, since I see it as one more thing in my way.  I use a light on a pole at night in ponds, and that gets in my way, but it’s a necessity.

Striperblues and Myself have had our battles. I respect him. I have never seen him do anything inconsiderate to any boaters nor kayakers. He's a pain in the ass but we are all pains in the ass.

I boat and kayak. The last thing any of us want to see is a kayaker or boater get involved in a crash or even a near miss. Lets all proceed cautiously and stay visible as best as we can. Give the shore guys the space they deserve. Yes, give everyone space if you can and when there is only one pod.....all bets are off! :wave:

I constantly deal with people who’ve run into things; rocks, buoys, sandbars, other boats, etc. Add a little albie fever into the mix and you’ve got an even more oblivious operator. Crowds are trouble, especially for vulnerable vessels like kayaks. Hoping others are paying attention wouldn’t be enough for me to venture into that sh-t show.

Like dogg said, people hit stuff all the time and a lot of it is bigger than a kayak. There is no way in hell I would be in a kayak without a flag in a congested area where many boaters employ a technique called "run and gun". I have been in waters where boats disappear in the troughs and there were kayakers out there. Not smart in my opinion.

I think the bigger issue is the color of many kayaks. Lots of them are dark colored and blend into the water. If you have a dark kayak then you should at least wear a bright color pfd. I’ve had a couple times in the boat in 1’-2’ seas where I didn’t notice a dark colored kayak with matching dark pfd until getting pretty close.

Yup, mine is a bright red paddle yak.  If needed I can signal with the paddle, which every kayaker should have handy.

I honestly believe a flag won’t prevent a collision if the boater isn’t operating safely and paying attention.  And a boater that is paying attention and operating safely won’t run over a kayaker without a flag.

Also, I stay out of crowds and poor visibility situations.  Crowds suck, and fog is just a no-go for me.

A little tiny flag that stands 3’ tall on those rocks, buoys, sandbars, and boats wouldn’t  prevent those collisions.

My flag/light is mounted with a slip joint, if it's in the way I can just knock it over, then set it upright once things calm down.

A totally clueless boater can hit a house 100' from shore. A flag gives an extra chance for someone momentarily distracted to spot you.
