Did They Try To Run a Game On Me?

Last Friday, I took the 4Runner in for rear brakes. Too lazy and old to do them myself off the ground, so I found a shop that could do it that day.

Anyway, the truck had a low tire sensor also...it always does. The spare loses about a pound or two a month, and sets the sensor until I get off my hind end, lower the spare, and top it off.

I go and pick up the truck, and the lady, all proud if herself, says we found your low tire sensor problem...it is a screw right here, on the outside sidewall...can't plug it because it is in the sidewall...but, we can get you a new tire here tomorrow... I look, and the screw is in the corner of the tread, a drywall screw...never mind, I tell her, I will take care of it, intending to plug it myself, tire is almost new, less than 10k miles on it, not replacing it until it wears out.

Today, I get all the necessaries together to plug the tire, remove the screw, and no hissing of escaping air, no spit bubbles, get soapy water...no bubbles. No need for a plug.

Did the shop try to run a scam on me?

Or did I just happen to catch a screw, and got lucky they found it before it put a hole in the tire?

I am thankful it was just a one inch long screw, and if it was a scam, he didn't ruin my tire.

Should I give an online review warning other folks to buyer beware when dealing with them?

Bang the proud out of the lady.

She is kind of chunky, and an older unit...I'm in.

What'd they charge for the break job?

Around 500, brakes and rotors.

I didn't think the price was out of line. My Ford dealer gave around  the same estimate for the same job on my F150.

Trying to get me to buy an unneeded tire kind of irks me.

Nothing else bad to say about the job, the brakes were done that day, in a few hours, and work, so far.

Could be that they just noticed the screw when it was on the lift and assumed it was leaking because the light was on.

Yup. I could have got lucky.
