Reel stuck on rod

I have a reel stuck on a surf rod. The locking nut separated from the hood (type that slowly moves down as you turn the nut). Any advice on how to fix it? I tried tightening the nut hoping that the two pieces would snap together but it didn't work.

If I was going to fish this reel on this rod, I'd just leave it on there. However, I have a brand new reel coming in the mail tomorrow that will only pair with this particular rod.

My first choice might be the wifes hot air hair dryer....warm up the metal ring and it may expand enough to give you some clearance. If you have lemon pledge, give it a shot after warming up....wet it up , tap on the reel seat with a piece of hardwood, patience is a virtue.

The problem is that it won't budge because the nut seperated. It's not the kind you can slide down with force. In other words, you are supposed to back the nut off and the hood slowly moves down with it. The threads are preventing it from moving.

The threads only engage the nut, I believe you should be able to tap that piece down.

Thats different, I learn something new every day. All the seats I ever saw didnt have the threads on the metal part....and the threaded composite nut worked against the metal. You may have to cut it off and reinvent it.

Just give it a good solid tap(s) it with a hammer and any object that can get a purchase on the edge of hood. The knurled nut is the thing that holds everything in place. And it's already backed off.

Doesn't matter if you get any more hood damage. Since you might get lucky and only replace a hood nut.

I'm very happy now because I can test out my new reel coming tomorrow. Good call.

That’s exciting, what kind of reel did you get?

Penn 7500 spinfisher long cast. My first Vi generation spinfisher. Also, my first long cast reel. I'm curious to see if it actually casts farther. Going to use it for pompano here in FL. Also, plan to use it in the outer banks. I would have gone 6500 but the 7500 was on sale.
