Dave Peros
I might have asked this before and if so, I apologize. I never got into the braid craze, mainly because in my guiding business often working with inexperienced folks, loose line on the spool caused by failing to flip the bait by hand to eliminate loose loops along with casting mainly artificials - along with eels, which I refer to as "as close to casting a plug or soft plastic with live bait" - resulted in the most hellacious line disasters. Add in reeling agains the drag or using the reel as a winch rather than working the rod and reeling to pick up slack - well, you know what that does. So, I replaced my line each week and even after a trip that featured lots of the above, but now that my preferred Silver Thread is gone, I am at a loss for a replacement. Any suggestions out there that feature the great casting characteristics and durability of Silver Thread? Many thanks in advance.
bmac
I've pretty much gone braid crazy and haven't used mono very much over the past decade or more. Back in my mono days I found P-line to be as good or better than Silver Thread. They market several different products. I always thought the original was good stuff but they make a copolymer line as well. Give it a try. C. Regalis
WindAndWater
Lots of people seem to like Izorline XXX. (*member previously known as 'SoCalStripers')
Mike Mendez
I also like Izorline XXX, but nowadays I've been using Sufix Tritanium. It is slightly softer than Izorline XXX and bulk spools are not expensive. This comparison is for 8lb line. As a side note, Capt. Russ Izor came into a fishing store I used to work at in my teens. BrianBM
I can't remember when I last saw Silver Thread on the market.

I use only winch reels so 15-20 will do good on a spinning reel. it is also thinner than most mono too. comes in 4 colors, blue, chartreuse, grey and clear, always on sale like every week too. cheech
A similar thin co-po mono is High Seas Black Widow, but it’s gotten pricey! Works well for me on small baitcasters and conventionals. MikeK
Silverthread used to be my go to. Used to buy 3000 ud spools in various line class. Now, for everything less than 14 lb, I use Pline flouroclear. It is a similiar copolymer with mono coated with flouro. Been using it for over 5 years now and have no complaints. Casts great, ties good knots and is reasonably abrasion resistant. FYI, I have not tried line weights over 14lb test, so can't speak to that. Sometimes the heavier lb test fluoro coated lines can get stiff. The big river site has 600 or 900 yd spools for reasonable money, which periodically go on sale.

Dave Peros
Thanks for all the suggestions; I picked up some 12 and 16 lb. Jinkai mono to try, as well as 12 P-Line CXX Polymer. Going to try it out tomorrow with paying folks and get their impressions; I plan on trying some Izorline as well. I'll post my thoughts once I get a feel for everything I try. I loved that line. oh wow, I didn't know that. thanks for the info. another I love is not a copolymer but it's very soft and silky. it is sea striker clear premium. cast nice too. HH bottom right. All 8n this pic are very good. The Omni flex is Walmart line and works nice, low cost @$1.74 per spool when I last bought a dozen spools. 250 yds of 25-30lb.
