“Cheap” chunking rod

As title says, looking to pick up as decent a chunking rod as I can get for $150 or less. Ive never fished bait, always plug/bucktail/fly. When at the beach with the 3 kiddos since Im not able to really move around much so Id like to just have a rod in a spike while we’re hanging out. This will be strictly for chunking, I’ll have other rods if I choose to throw lures. I was thinking of just grabbing an ugly stick big water but figured Id see if anyone had any other suggestions. For info this will be used open beach south shore long island, and would like to handle up to around 8 oz. Thanks!

You could get a tsunami trophy 2, they make a 11’ rod rated 4-10oz, it’s ~$125 at most big box stores

I second that,  as a matter fact, I just bought one, perfect for throwing a bunker head and 6 ounces of weight. Mines the 12 foot.

I rarely bait fish myself. Lately been doing a little of that too.

Goto Walmart or dicks get a Penn Prevail rod. Cheap rod bout $100. They come in a 9 , 10, 11, and a 12.

I actually have the rod in an 8, 9, and an 11 used for chunking. Rods aren’t the lightest or most fancy but a good rod for the money, and especially fishing bait.

I'm a kind person, I'm kind to everyone, but if you are unkind to me, then kindness is not what you'll remember me for.

Bad day fishing is still much better than good day work.

Same here. Just picked up the 12’ XH this week.

I have 2, 10 MH and 1, 11 H also.  I’ve been using the 10 foot medium heavy for the last 15-20 years, as my primary plugging pole, great rod.  Lately, I’ve been using the 11 heavy as my primary plug pole, I like the extra length.

I used the 12 extra heavy last week for the first time, you can really throw some weight with that rod, threw 6 ounces and almost half a bunker with it.  Which it handled with no problem. Had a huge fish hooked with it first day must have taken 75 yards of the line off on its first run but the hook pulled.

Thanks guys, I went with the trophy II 11’ XH. Think it will work perfect for my applications. Feels light compared to what I had in my mind.

rreealman thanks for the offer, but I was using a gift card which is why I had the spending limit.
