They all have slight differences, some

might be easier to “walk” than others, some cast better than others, some have loud rattles, some have deep rattles, and some have no rattles.

some may have a wider searching action, where others may have a tighter, zig zag action.

the differences are all relatively minor, but depending on the conditions or if the fish are being picky it can make a major difference

When it comes to using them in saltwater it seems that only 1 color is used "White" food for thought:)

The only real difference is size/profile in my opinion. Some manufacturers are using different rattles inside . Spook style plugs have always been effective. One thing that is overlooked on these plugs is to have razor sharp and strong hooks , you won't miss as many strikes

I use more colors than just white, I use white with a deep rattle for daytime, black with a loud rattle for night time, and I fish some shallow water flats where I’ve found that a clear spook with no rattles is most profuctive

So you do use a spook at night? Tell us more. How productive? In what situations/conditions?

I primarily fish spooks from the boat, but I fish spooks at night in the same places I fish them during the day.

I generally target structure. Boulder fields, rips, ledges and humps. I look for shallow water bordering deep water, and often fish parallel to the structure

they’re just as effective at night as they are during the day. They may seem a bit less effective at night as during the day we primarily locate and fish on bait, whereas at nigh were fishing on structure so the fish are less concentrated, but large spooks are very effective at night

I must have 7 different versions of the "walk the dog lure" is there any real difference??

top to bottom

Wooden Zara Spook

The  White Bone

6 inch Zara Spook

squid style jerk bait "walk the dog a foot under the water"

The only difference is that you put a photo of that squid bait in yet another topic. It’s getting ridiculous.

The Rebel Jumpin' minnow modified by Ron Redingfin is an excellent spook plug. He modifies this small but deadly plug by changing its cheesy wire hook hangers to wire through construction with a barrel swivel in the belly with 4X strong 1/0 treble hook. He also fills the plug with foam for flotation plus weights it for better action and casting. He has made an excellent, fish catching spook plug even better imo.

I didn't know he improved the jumping minnow too. Thanks for the heads up Steve.

And as for using spooks at night I'm surprised more people don't do it. I've had spectacular nights of fishing doing so.

I ain't done much at night on 'em. Like to try more tho have done somewhat but not much.

I like a flo yellow or flo orange for viz issues in choppy water. Reason being to track the water behind the plug for sign of striper. Then there's some spooks that are bobbier and bigger diameter good for choppy water. Thinner diameter good when they refuse the bigger diameter.
