rst3
I fully expect all anglers will be aware of this new regulation, and then adjust their keeper practices accordingly. Also, I expect Mass EPOs will be bringing on some extra summer deputies to aid in communication and enforcement /s wrboz and Richizzzle 2 Fishing kills me exactly as it keeps me alive. mikez2
Well, I know the skepticism and gloom are to be expected. I get it. I look at it differently. I just came off a two trip weekend in which I saw a shtload of slot fish caught. Almost every fish I saw at two widespread locations were slot, high slot or over (current) slot. It's May friggin 21 and I have only one fish that was under slot. That's unheard of. It hasn't happened in 35 year. If any significant portion of those fish can be saved, by all means save them. The majority of us WILL be aware of the change and the majority of us WILL respect it. And we won't need F&G or scary vigilantes looking over our shoulders to do so. I just wish they went to 36 instead. There's SO many of those 30 - 34 inchers right now, I wish we could protect them all. It’s going to get ugly the next few years. EliasA

It would be hard to believe they all got killed off from CnR, but if they did, what does this new regulation change? Maybe they are easier prey for the seals? There were bad spawns for the last 8 or so years so there are less young fish than previous years.

Lots of factors, environmental, weather, water temps, water flow, number of breeders, etc. This is why it’s important to take care of the fish that you are releasing. Gave me some hope for the future Most of us who've been doing this awhile are used to seeing the dinks widespread on the whole coast. It used to be, for many years, the little ones fill in first. All the way up the coast. Lots of them. What we now call slot fish came after. If I remember correctly, last year was similar. Some guys were excited that better sized fish came early, but some of us noticed the lack of smalls and got worried. This year even more.

I don't even think that's it, I think it's people not in areas/not targeting small fish. I do believe the stocks are in decline, but how many people do you see throwing 2-3" bait? chisler
There are no small fish! You don't need to toss a 2 inch bait to hook a dink, they chomp 6 inch pencils as well, but noone is hooking up with small fish, and YOY is the reason.
