The stands on the dock that serve food may only be open on weekends.

We are generally the first guests at the club for the year so there aren't a lot of things open when I'm on the island. Last year was the first time we noticed the lobster guy open, it is usually just the oyster place. The Corner Store is open a few hours a day (souveniers), as is the regular store / market. Sometimes. I have never seen a place that sells a sandwich.

I've never drank the tap water...it's probably fine.

Is there just the one ferry out of New Bedford or are there other options to get there?

The Cuttyhunk Ferry Company and there is also John Paul, who runs his own boat back and forth. That can be fun in the right amount of wind.

The tap water is some of the finest you'll find.

The club is under new management, so still not sure of the kitchen policy. However, I do believe the charcoal grills are still available. Yes you have to bring your own charcoal. The stands on the dock that serve food may only be open on weekends.

I will be very interested in hearing about the new management and any changes. Bonnie was the best. And once you had a grasp of her rules, it was all good. No korkers in the club was the biggie.... since we were usually the first group there after the floors had been redone.... I will have a report after next weekend.

You really want to be mobile on your feet and in better than decent shape to access the best the island offers. I first went in my forties, with a bum knee and was a smoker. I managed by eating Aleve and being in shape from a physical job. It would be a different discussion now at 65 with a knee replacement, even four years since my last cigarette. You had best be working your way up to walking five miles before you head over there in my opinion.  That said, we also had two fellas who were challenged by the walk from the ferry to the Club. But the bowling ball rocks are a challenge, no doubt.

I'm arriving Tuesday morning (the 30th)...perhaps we shall see eachother?

When I was there last, some property owners on the west end were banning people from using the dirt road out to that side of the island. I guess there was an incident with some surf guys but I didn't get the details.  It may be worth checking with a local or the new inn keepers before venturing that way via the road.

It goes a long way out there to be respectful and pack out what you bring in.

Are the roads public or private? Can you bike on all of them? Thinking about doing just a day trip this summer with bikes.

If I recall correctly, there was a rope tied across the entrance to the west end road that had a no trespassing sign on it.

Things change yearly so anyone who has been there recently would know more.  I hope we get some trip reports!

They close the road in season meaning July and August, I have been there many times in June and and september and Road was open.

If you have an electric bike this is the place for it, there is a guy on the island that rents carts, but you must be careful on the west side of the island as those ruts are getting worse and worse each year.

Needles, darters , mag darters some metal lips, white and black rubber large and small and some tins (in case it gets windy). Some top water for sunrise , but day bite is usually none existent.

Ferry and Water Taxi both leave out of new Bedford, depending on when you go and if you are using the ferry call them and make a reservation especially for parking other wise you are going to have to park in the public lot and jack arse your truck back and forth.

Water is as pure as it comes out there , curious to as to what the kitchen situation is with the new Management at the club. In season you can do Breakfast at the club and depending what day it is those shacks down at the dock should be open for food. The club has Charcoal grills and if you stay at petes you will have full kitchens as well as gas grills.

yes there is food out there but you will pay the island tax (everything is more expensive on any island).

You have to bring your food out there especially is you are staying for the week pre cook some trays of  italian meals and freeze as it you won't need spices et al to cook.

Also it's a dry island so you have to bring you booze out there, depending how boozy you are there is a beer distributor in New bedford that will bring booze beer to the ferry for you and you just have to pay the ferry for the potage as well as go down to the ferry to pick it up.

You don't need a wetsuit but it helps even if you don't swim as those rocks and the potential to fall down; one can easily ruin one's $800 pair of simms waders.

Expect wind as its an island, the tide at the Pyramids starts to fall about an hour and fifteen before the stated high tide at the harbor, we like to use the tide chart at Penikese island as a rough guide to high and low but tides and current take some time to learn out there.

It is a place that the internet still hasn't ruined and I hope I am not putting the hex on it here.( although Covid has sure made it harder to get reservations).

Every cove looks fishier than the one you just walked thru and It is as magical as everyone says even if you don't catch your personal best out there.

Good Luck and enjoy your trip.

I will add, I will be disappointed that CMS will not be there to visit to buy last minute ****e that we didn’t need.
Those guys at CMS were great and always part of our Cuttyhunk experience.
Another part of our experience was going to Jake’s diner in Fairhaven, a very worthy greasy spoon.
