The point is that commercial striper licenses should be limited to commercial fisherman.

Been supplementing my income with the Striped Bass Comm fishery for 20 years.  How come I get pushed out?  It's literally a supplemental fishery like sea bass, fluke, scup and bluefish.  Should I be banned from catching my share of the quota because I have a another primary source of income.  You are kind of crushing the American dream of working hard and prospering.

If you don’t make a substantial portion of your income from striper fishing or fishing in general, you shouldn’t be allowed help deplete the resource.  If you are a true comms guy, it should be easy enough to prove.  Leave the quota for those who can show that they are true commercial fisherman.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

It will get shutdown before that ever happens.

I think that would be a very limited amount of people.  Have to be very stupid to eat one and not make $50.  Why does it matter if I catch 2 are year for beer or not?  The quota is gonna be filled and stay the same.  Same amount of dead bass.

The quota does not always get filled. It was not even close to getting filled for many years.

And you’re crushing the American dream of having a hobby of catching stripers.

Buddy, the data just came out said that the hobby is crushing the population.  Use facts and science.  Not emotion

So you should be allowed to kill more than the rest of us because you want money for gas and bud light?

I’ve read plenty. Prove to me that one commercial angler doesn’t kill more stripers than one recreational angler. That’s what we’re talking about here. Why should you be allowed to kill more of a public resource than the rest of us because you want beer money?

It's no use.  We are not talking about 1 person.  I am rebuking the fact that the New Slot limit for bass has nothing to do with commercial fishing.  Why are you so mad?  Feel free to get a commercial permit next year and spend it the money on whatever you want.  I don't give a **** haha

I don’t need the extra money. Even if I did I wouldn’t want to destroy one of my favorite hobbies just to make a few bucks.

@Zman @z-man if commercial was dragger only would you be happy with that? Cut out the little guys and let the draggers fill the quota in a couple days? Why does it matter to you who fills the quota?

Definitely not. There’s too much dead bycatch with draggers.

Does anyone remember how it was before they dropped the limit to 28”?

The population was coming back and then we started killing the breeders.

Add in increased interest via the internet, poor management and a growing seal population and the fishery is dying again.

I would love to see a 5 year ban on killing any stripers, stricter regulations on killing fish for commercial and rec after the 5 years, have local and feds work together to protect the bait sources and see what happens.

We can’t keep doing such a shitty job managing this resource.
