I think most people here hate draggers

Me to I was just trying to show there could be worse ways for people to profit off bass than a plumber who owns his own business and is able to trade the pipe wrench for a fishing pole Monday-Wednesday for 6 weeks of the year

You can still trade the wrench for the pole for enjoyment purposes. There doesn’t need to be a profit made from everything you do.

Making money justifies taking the time off that's why when the bite is bad/to far you go to work

Lame excuse.

It's about enjoyment, I enjoy fishing I enjoy making money when I have the opportunity to combine the 2 I will. I also go on ffo c&r trout fishing trips not all fishing is the same for me but I enjoy aspects of all.. but I would not go out there and risk wasting breeder fish by catching and releasing them all day to feed the crabs. What's worse the guys out there on Monday making use of the fish or the guys out there on Saturday catching 10 30# fish and "releasing" them to be be wasted feeding crabs

What do you think is worse? 100% death rate or a 1-9% death rate by C&R?

Also, what makes you think you are entitled to make money on your hobbies? If you golf do you take the range balls and steal some sod to cover your expenses? Skiing is expensive too. Should you steal a pair of skis at the end of the day to resell to cover expenses?

I'm not stealing anything? I'm legally allowed to catch and sell 15 a day Monday-Wednesday... your comparison is not even apples to oranges it apples to rocks and sticks... And that mortality rate is for all c&r would you agree that c&r on bigger fish only with live bait would have 2-3x the 9% mortality rate?

And Massachusetts has determined that I am indeed entitled to make money off my hobbie and so are you, it's not my fault you cannot, or will not exercise your right to sell bass commercially.

Speaking as a self-appointed moderator (town hall type, not forum type), this exchange (between FTF and ZM in general, not just these two quotes) is a good example of how and why we keep shooting ourselves in the foot.   Like a few other exchanges in this thread, we have regressed back from "is what the ASFMC doing right/wrong" to "comm striper fishing bad!  No keep fish!   I like keep fish!  Pay bills!"   like two monkeys fighting over a brown banana peel.

Z-man isn't going to talk FTF out of recremercial fishing, and FTF isn't going to convince Z-Man that what he is doing is OK.  And in the end they're just going to feel stronger about how they feel.

And that's ok, but it's not solving anything, and maybe worse, is detracting from conversations we could be having which would possibly come up with possible changes that could make a difference.

You are right @pogie_boy apologies for derailment. For the record I love the new slot, smaller fish taste better anyway save the big girls for breeding/send em to some supermarket in Wisconsin (sorry but I had to)

I think the thread was going off the rails before you chimed in.

Here's a thought a comment you made brought to mind though,  Yo-yo-ing.   Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that practice was outlawed but then is now allowed again?    From what i heard, the massacre that occurred off Plymouth last year was almost exclusively a snag-n-drop or yo-yo fest.       I have to believe that such a practice must have a huge effect on mortality due to fish inhaling baits and being stuck with hardware.     How would the comm fleet react if they weren't allowed to use any sort of bait?   Jigs and plugs only?

I would be down as long as the playing field is level across the board. AFO for everyone rec and comm coast wide would be elite in my opinion.
