Lotta guys fish blade baits also. I have a tendency to lose every blade bait I buy to the wachusett gods.

You can't let them get to the bottom. The blade baits I have love snagging everything on bottom, especially when shore fishing. I use the count down method. On my 1st cast I figure out how deep the water is. I let it hit bottom as I count 1-mississippi, 2-mississippi, etc. If it's a 10 count to bottom, and I want to work the bottom 1/2 of the column, I'll only let it go to about a 7 count the next cast and jig it lightly.

Laker Palooza.

So yesterday I had an all-time, top 5 'Chu outing.

I fished from about 3:00pm-ish until 7:30pm.

As I hiked in, my slip sinker bait rod snagged a branch which cut the leader. When I got to my spot, I threw out a shiner on my slip bobber setup while I retied my slip sinker setup. Before I could tie on a new hook & leader, the shiner got hit. The laker came off (I could see its fin breaking the surface) as well as the shiner. I put on a new shiner, cast it out in the same area. It got hit again in about 5 minutes. That laker came off as well. However, that set the tone for the outing, it was going to be busy.

For the 4 hours or so I was fishing, it was a steady bite. It wasn't fast & furious but steady enough that I didn't have to change what I was doing.

A gold Kastmaster was my workhorse. Most fish came on that.

After I reached 13 landed fish, I kept on catching but I stopped making a mental note of my count or taking pictures.

A front rolled through around 6pm. The wind changed directions, going from a light breeze to 12mph+ gusts. Clouds rolled in and light showers started. As the front pushed through the dusk/sunset bite picked up. I was still catching fish every 3, 4 casts. I switched up to firetiger. The fish liked that color just as much.

I ended up landing 20+ fish, I dropped about 4 on bait, a few more on lures.  I had about 1/2 dozen in the 5lb range, quite a few more in the 3-4lb range, then a few typical 'Chu lakers. Metals ruled the day, outfishing bait probably 5-1.

No smallies for me yesterday. This location usually gives up nice smallies as well but I haven't caught one on lures or shiners yet. I'm guessing the water is still cold and they are a bit sluggish.

Some of my best fish from yesterday.

What happens if you can't spell Mississippi, will another word work?
