albacized
By the way, regarding the extended season through Dec 31, does this apply to other bodies shares the same closure dates? I’m specifically thinking the Sudbury Res?

Might go smaller.. I use 15lb Sufix 832 superline as my main line. I use a 12lb flouro leader for lakers & smallies. I used an 8lb flouro leader for salmon & trout. The main reason I use a 12lb flouro leader for lakers and smallies is because I often use 1 oz kastmasters or 1 oz Acme trophy spoons or other heavy metals. If the leader is under 10lbs, the leader will eventually snap from the stress of bombing 1 oz metals for a period of time. Even a 10lb leader will eventually give out. I find that a 12lb leader can take hours of bombing metals without failing. I use an 8lb leader for salmon & 'bows 'cuz salmon have good eye sight and because I typically thrown 3/8, 1/2 & 5/8oz lures for them so the heavier leader isn't as necessary. I use an 8lb leader on my slip bobber setup when I target salmon and rainbows. However, in the spring, when lakers are in the shallows, I've had lakers bite through an 8lb leader more than once. If a laker bites off my 8lb leader, I immediately change it up to a 12lb one in case there are other lakers in the area. Edited November 20 by zak-striper Mikx, WorcBoy and R.R. Sudbury (Foss) Reservoir still closes on Nov 30 as do the other Chu watershed ponds like Quag and West Waushacum. However it may be worth a call to the district office to confirm. Of course the state can close the Chu sooner in Dec if we get the cold snap of all cold snaps with significant icing. Pfantum Pfishah

It happened in '17. We had a pretty cold December, the last 2 weeks of the month, the high temps were barely in the low 30s and the lows were in the teens & single digits. It was so cold that by early January, Old Silver Beach in Falmouth was iced over. Edited November 20 by zak-striper

Thanks a lot and makes sense given that the Sudbury and the other bodies of water mentioned would likely freeze faster than the Res bb1

tobiasfrost
Anyone heard anything about the salmon? Are they still moving in the rivers? I ask because I've still been getting rainbows full of roe within the last week or so in other spots. bdowning

But to add, in a typical year, the chu estuary salmon run is almost done by now. bb1

One responder was bragging about drifting a crawler in front of resting salmon and mouth snagging. Real sporting. Again I wish they would close that river for 2 months and let the salmon be. bb1, DAQ, Colrain and 1 other 1

You'd think closing off the section where the salmon build their Redds would be the least they could do. It wouldn't stop it completely but it would curb a lot of it.
