IT band syndrome

Knowing that a lot of folks here are going through some very difficult times with physical ailments, and cancer (f - cancer!), my issue is

certainly less serious but not critical.....I wondered if anyone here has ilio-tibial band syndrome - its an inflammation of the tendon band from

the hip down to the tibia and hurts like a mofo until the band snaps back off the femur where its hung up.

What did you do? Physical therapy/cortisone injections?

Meanwhile, all good thoughts to those that are suffering through serious ****, whether its you or a family member or friend.

In no particular order...

Opt 1 - Go to a doctor get a script for physical therapy, listen learn from what they tell you. Then start doing it your own at home or a gym

Opt 2 - search the interwebs for IT band strength and stretch exercises

Thanks, had an x-ray and saw a hip doc who gave me a few exercises, later a script.  Went to the therapy at the Seaview orthopedic locally and it felt like a factory - at the desk they tried to up-sell acupuncture (without knowing a thing about my condition).

I will try another place, mostly need to know what NOT to do to aggravate it.

I did search but there's a lot to digest.

The IT band on my right side is a real nusance. It has been hurtung me off and on for years. I had knee surgery in January and the most painful thing for me is my IT band. The best stretch for me is while laying on my back, taking a band, wrapping it around my right foot, and pulling my leg up towards the ceiling to stretch the hamstring. Then I take my right leg and bring it over to my left side, while keeping as much tension on the band as possible. Keeping the leg straight too. I feel the stretch all the way from my hip / glute area, down to the right side of my calf. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat. I do a set of three, and try to do that at least twice daily. It provides temporary relief; I'd like to find some permanent relief.

Good luck!

I’ve tried both, is your pain at the knee? Most IT searches identify the knee as the pain focus, mine is the hip/outer thigh

Yes, it's the backside of my knee...that tendon / part of the IT band. Runs down into my toes some days. Ugh.

It you suffer from ITB...

Maybe you should  tell your boyfriend to stop sticking it in your butt.

Maybe some lube?

Nonsense, he would rather suffer than give up the butt play.

I’d try a foam roller, should help loosen it up

Foam roller definitely works. If you do it right it can be uncomfortable and if you really enjoy torturing yourself roll on an 8” pvc pipe.
