March 2023 Fishing Reports

Fished 3 backwater spots today with my son. No dice but it was good to work off the winter rust and also try a bunch of new goodies.

 

spot with a nice gentleman and he said he had luck on the opener at one spot we fished.

Opened the seasonal place in SJ. Took my oldest boy out for an afternoon poke around a few bay spots. Throwing salted & frozen bloods and night crawlers. 
 

Boy was it windy!! Couldn’t try out his new stick in those conditions. Took 3-5 or more ounces of lead to keep the rig relatively planted. 

 

Switched to a spot further back. Good decision as the bait was getting nibbled by something, but I stupidly forgot to lighten up the weight & lost a proof of concept bait rig I put too much time into to lose in one trip. 
 

Took the skunk at that point & filled him in on the terminology!

 

Gonna tie some less time consuming rigs, lol. And pick up fresh actual living bloodworms.

Allocating days off to Spring fishing is a hard sell - even to myself with family vacations to cover & another Fall Run in 8 months.

 

Also, so maybe it’s just me, but I feel like it takes a little while getting re-acclimated to fishing bay & river locations after fishing all beach & jetty in the Fall.

Anyone wanna buy a gaff? 
 

Pretty soon it’ll be required that pretty pink panties must be worn. 
 

Two half hearted trips = skunk

yes i am feeling this as well.. still going to try to maximize an april week in the bays & rivers.

I may need to get one this year as well. I just hate walking past those bunkers and houses at night though, creeps me out. I used to go there a lot, but stopped after I thought I saw something and ran back to my truck. I may also need those pink panties.

I’ve done that at the point Pleasant Canal. One of those night herons was making an eerie screeching sound. I had no idea what it was where it was coming from. I thought it was something coming after me coming out of the canal water. I packed up and left scared ****.

 

I’m actually excited about getting to know that place again up there

That’s why I carry a large knife. It still creeps me out.
